The CW cancels 'H8R,' adds 'Ringer' repeats

Later H8R. The CW is pulling its awkward celebrity encounter reality show from Wednesday nights.

After the series dipped down to 1.1 million viewers and a 0.4 in the adult demo last night, The CW yanked the show from its lineup. On the series, celebrities would confront people who passionately disliked them, often with pretty uncomfortable results. Repeats of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Ringer will get some additional sampling by airing in the slot instead.

H8R is the second show killed off today, joining NBC’s Free Agents in the fall TV graveyard (we didn’t actually include H8R on our Fall TV Death Watch list … frankly this outcome seemed pretty self evident … but that’s here for the curious).

Thank goodness. The problem with this show is that it featured “celebrities” that people really DO hate and don’t want to see because they are overexposed anyway. I really don’t see the CW lasting longer than 3 or 4 more years. It will become the DuMont network of the 21st century. They have the most over-publicized but lowest rated and godawful shows on television.

That show was painfully scripted. The Kim Kardashian episode was downright offensive to Afro-American woman and the young lady who played the role of “hater” should be ashamed of herself!

      • hmm

I’m dying at the fact you said afro-american…LOL!

      • TV Critic

Oh yeah? Don’t lose sight of the message while focusing on the wrong thing.

      • Lisa

I come from Afro. It is a lost tribe of Africans that settled in what is now modern day Romania. We called it Afromania.

      • stupid

        Kim Kardashian is not black

      • TV Critic

@stupid…no sh*t Sherlock. But they had a black actress pretending to hate Kim and harassing her on what she contributes to the black community simply because she has a large backside typically attributed to black women.

The sooner we can rid society of this word “hater”, the better! I can’t stand the notion that because I’m critical of something or someone, I must be a hater. Gtfoh!

      • etm

ITA, lisa g!! I can’t stand that word or the reasoning behind it.

    • Wyn

Exactly, hmmm. It’s a show that featured people like Joe Francis, Octomom, and Levi Johnston and gave them a chance to prove that they are good people. Who really thought that would be popular?

  • J.D

Maybe the CW should try putting on programs with minorities (black, latina, asian)since the big 4 don’t seem too interested.

    • Jaymes

The CW canceled “The Game,” “Girlfriends,” “Everybody Hates Chris,” “One on One”.. I don’t think they cared.

      • Jess

        Right on!!

      • jpratm

        Everwood and Veronica Mars .

      • hmm

Once “One Tree Hill” goes off I’m officially done with the CW. I was sooooo mad when they cancelled “The Game” and the reason they gave was stupid. I hate BET too but thank goodness they picked up the show.

      • Sandra

        I loved “Girlfriends” :(

      • Lisa

        Those shows were terrible.

    • The Truth

They are interested if the show will actually bring in viewers. Viewers equal ads which equals money. Networks are in business to make money and have been since they all started. If minorities want more representation on network tv then develop something that is actually watchable by a large audience and pitch it to the networks.

I’m glad they canceled ‘H8R’. I know the message is supposed to be ‘don’t hate on people you don’t know’, but I couldn’t get past the whole, “I’m a millionaire celebrity who’ve had opportunities most people can’t imagine, and not everyone is in love with me? Boo Hoo!” thing. Had the show involved actual people confronting their actual bullies, it might have sent some sort of a message and made for good watching….

    • Ash

lol *claps* that’s exactly what bothered me about the show as well. So what if some gazzilionaire has haters? They should consider it a good thing, because if you don’t have haters you’re not famous

    • Remerdre

Actual people confronting their actual bullies — I actually would have watched that.

      • Anonymous

I think there’s a show called Bully Beatdown on MTV 2 with that premise, but it also looks scripted.

  • Matthew

Awesome. Civilian Justice right there. Thumbs down to furthering the stupidity of our nation.

  • Greg

    Is this shocking to anyone?

  • T

Misread this and thought ringer was cancelled! So glad it’s not. I didnt see h8r but just the way the spelled th name made me into a hater myself.

    • T

      Ew please excuse the typos

    • TV Critic

I know what u mean! Not a well worded headline!

  • Carrie

I knew this would be the first new CW show canceled. Their new ‘reality’ shows always do terribly and they always have such obnoxious themes. I don’t see “Hart of Dixie” lasting, either, but I hope they’ll at least give it a full season just because I really like Scott Porter and Rachel Bilson.

    • RenĂ© De Beaumarchais

Hart will be renewed, I’m sure.

      • Ann

I’m not so sure about that. “Ringer” & “Secret Circle” are doing better in the ratings and generate more attention, and unless they cancel more than 1 of their older shows, they’ll probably get rid of their lowest-rated new show.

      • Katie

I actually think they would cancel one of their old shows before canceling HoD. Nikita is doing pretty poorly right now, and really doesn’t generate that much buzz. 90201 and GG could also be done after this year.

      • Ann

Well, OTH is definitely ending this year, but they don’t seem to want to let go of GG & “90210” despite their bad ratings. I’d actually prefer that they get rid of those 2 shows and keep “Nikita”, “Dixie”, “Ringer” & “Secret Circle”. I guess we’ll have to keep our fingers crossed and see.

      • T

        I so agree with Ann!

      • Liz

I wish they would cancel 90210. It is a complete disgrace to the original. They should go ahead and cancel it midseason in it’s 4th season like Fox did to the far better teen series The OC. I also really don’t want to see Hart of Dixie or Ringer get canceled. They are both very intriguing series with a lot of potential. And I love Rachel Bilson and Sarah Michelle Gellar.

  • Nadine

Glad Ringer is getting more exposure. I think it’s clever and awesome in many ways. One thing I would like is for the action to go a little… bit… faster.

    • Carla

Me too Nadine! I’m liking Ringer a lot and glad to have the chance for repeat episodes!

  • Jay

No Ordinary Family! They should pick up No Ordinary Family!!!!! PLEASE! That would be GREAT!!! So many people are still upset that it’s gone! D:

    • Clarke

It will probably NEVER happen, but I love the idea. No Ordinary Family was definitely cancelled prematurely.

  • John

They thought that having reality stars who real personalities are to be projected on their shows could somehow persuade their haters that “that’s not the real me” and you don’t know the real me? Yes I do Snooki! You are an uncouth, drunk, boorish skank and project that on TV every week! What are we missing?

    • joy

      Totally agree!

  • Eliza

Watched a little last night and it looked totally scripted (very badly).

  • Jaymes

Happy “Ringer” gets more sampling cuz it deserves to be watched!!

  • December

Most of the shows on the CW are trash. I did love season 1-5 of Supernatural though.

    • lexi

Supernatural is still awesome best show on CW network, everyone should watch season 7.

      • Kalie

I agree. I still love “Supernatural”. Season 7 is off to a great start.

  • Jed

This show absolutely sucked and why Pedowitz or that idiot Ostroff ordered such garbage to air in their fall season is beyind comprehension. Thank goodness this drivel is no more and no more Mario Lopez.

  • Q.H.

    CW still exists?!

    • Lisa Simpson

      Not in my area.
