All eyes may have been focused on Cher — who lived up to the hype by finally attending a taping of Dancing with the Stars Monday — but Chaz Bono wasn’t among those ogling the diva who was positioned next to David Arquette’s daughter.
In fact, Bono kept his attention off his family, including stepmother Mary Bono, who was also in the house. “When we’re dancing I try to just focus on [Lacey] and what we’re doing,” said Bono, who performed a Rocky-themed paso doble with partner Lacey Schwimmer that earned a standing ovation from a teary-eyed Cher. ”It was great to have everyone here. It pumped me up. I know my mom was really proud of me and that was awesome. I’m glad that whatever we’re doing is touching people.
“It was a great night,” he continued. “Last week was a hard week and everyone knew I was kind of feeling bad about it, so to come back this week and have my whole family there it was amazing.”
His performance wasn’t half bad, either. He and Schwimmer earned a 21, which tied him with Chynna Phillips and Nancy Grace for second to last place. (Carson Kressley finished at the bottom of the scoreboard with a 20). “Some dances are more challenging. Different dances fit different personalities and this one really made sense in my brain and in my body,” he said. It also helped that he was handed a movie theme close to his heart. “When I was a kid and I saw Rocky, it was my favorite movie. I wanted to be Rocky [Balboa]. Probably more than anything else, doing it to that song would’ve meant more to me than any movie theme.”
As for that seemingly hard run up those Dancing stairs, Bono said it wasn’t as hard as it looked. “It felt good. Going up stairs actually feels pretty good. Going down stairs is a little more challenging on my body right now. The adrenaline was pumping and I just did it. A couple of weeks ago I was in a lot of pain and now I’m just in a little bit.”

I saw Cher in the audience! She looked very happy to see Chaz dance on Dancing with the Stars! They were smart to keep it to only a few camera shots on her. Keep the focus mostly on Chaz on the ballroom floor and not Cher.
No problemo in focusing in on Chad….he takes up most of the lens! Now that Mamma Cher made her appearance, it is about time that Trans Chad leave the show. Am sure the votes were juggled around last week in order to keep him on until Cher showed up.

You have overcome so much, including that run up the stairs at the end of your routine…I was nervous for you. Rob K., I’m enjoying your shy charm and growth…stop beating yourself up, you are worthy. Chynna, hope you make it through. I love your beautiful dance lines. We all have tough nights. The show is both inspiring and entertaining, Carson, this season.

Please stop referring To Chaz as a he. She is, has been, and always will be a female. Chromosomes and DNA don.t change. A fraud is being allowed to make the audience to believe that all couples are of mixed gender. One couple is not.

I’ll call him a “he”, but with reservation. It does intrigue me that a person with a vagina wants to be called a he. I’m not so concerned about DNA and Chromosomes, but the physical part, is what gets me. But he is in transition, so I’ll go with he. (Although in my experience, MOST transexuals don’t usually identify themselves as gay or lesbian before the transition, which Chaz has done. They are usually straight people who don’t feel right in their body).

You just say HE because it is the respectful thing to do; Chaz feels that he is a he. Gender dysmorphic disorder is a very difficult thing for a person to go through without subjecting to themselves to the eyes of millions of viewers. What Chaz is doing is showing people that even though they may not understand him, he is still a person. His mom being there to show that people can and should love their children no matter what they are is just the icing on the cake. If you are so upset by Chaz being on the show -don’t watch it.

@Kat – Thanks for your comment. I think you said it very well. While I don’t exactly like the whole Chastity / Chaz thing, it is her/his life and decision. Cher supporting her child makes sense to me. I am not going to have a change of opinion or a change of heart because she/he is on DWTS, I am not going to read his book or blog or whatever, but I am not the production department at ABC, who needs to find a way to get ratings. Nobody is liked by everybody (Except Donny Osmond!)

I take offense to “freak of nature” Do you know what it feels like to be labeled a girl but feel like a girl? I don’t but he did and he did something about it; he feels he is now right. Who are you to judge? As for Cher she did the right thing; she is there to see her child but she is an icon and wants the spotlight on her child not on her. Her mother was the white hair lady next too I believe; she had an oxygen tube attached to her but again, there to see her grandchild. I like him; He has guts. I get that it is hard for many to understand how Chastity Bono’s mind worked to the point where she felt she truly needed to live life as a man. But how is that any different than other things that we don’t understand about people related to how their brains and minds work? Consider alcoholism – imagine being so judgmental and saying, “Hey, deviant, just stop drinking. What’s wrong with you?” Or better yet, let’s shun people with Alzheimer’s for failing to remember things anymore. If nothing else, I wish people could be more respectful of differences and people’s individual challenges and struggles. How can any of us truly understand what Chaz has faced? I find him brave for trying to make a life for himself on his terms, and that’s pretty respectable. I don’t understand, but I respect.
