NBC shows confidence in 'Prime Suspect, orders more scripts

NBC’s new drama Prime Suspect isn’t exactly blowing the roof off the House of Nielsen, but NBC isn’t willing to give up on the Maria Bello starrer just yet. As a sign of confidence for the struggling drama, the network just ordered six more scripts for the Thursday series.

Last week, the drama earned a 1.5 rating/4 share in adults 18-49 and averaged 4.9 million viewers. Though it didn’t increase its ratings, it didn’t lose a point versus the previous week, either. The show may climb in the coming weeks, aided by repeats airing on Monday nights in the old Playboy Club slot.

So far this season, Suspect has averaged a 1.8/5 in 18-49 and 6.25 million viewers.

Since it already canceled Playboy and Free Agents, NBC obviously wants to keep its options open on Prime Suspect before deciding to yank another low-rated new show off its schedule.  Though its not a full-season pickup, a script order works as an insurance policy to keep a show in production if — or when — a network decides to order more episodes. Stay tuned.

Love the show… it has gotten better with each week. Please NBC, give it a full season!

Maria Bello’s has NOTHING on Helen Mirren. You wanna see a good show? Check out the Mirren original.

      • Dave

That may be true, but just because Helen Mirren is better than Mario Bello doesn’t make this new Prime Suspect a bad show. It’s actually a solid procedural, and significantly better than a lot of the procedurals on TV right now.

Com on….both can exist. Why does it have to be either or? I can appreciate both versions of the Office because they’re very different. I liked both versions of Life of Mars too (well, maybe the British one a tad more!) But Prime Suspect U.S. is far from terrible–I think Bello is great in the role.

@Robert ~ Agree! I also love the show. Maria Bello is AMAZING. I tune in for her performance and stay for the great show and excellent cast. I also love Helen Mirren’s ‘Prime Suspect’ but besides the title and a few similar themes, both shows are very very different as both actresses are very different but superb in their own unique ways.

One of two dramas that I hope continue next year.

I saw the ads. It got me yelling at the screen. So fake. Guaranteed flop.

      • Simon Jester

@JD – you’re just *now* discovering that scripted drama is fake? :-D

Their NYC accents are so horribly phony.

this probably just means NBC has nothing on the back burner to fill all the gaping holes in its schedule. Everybody’s waiting for Grimm and Smash and The Voice– few are waiting for the story of a billionaire and his hairpiece.

      Right!

Saw last week’s episode. It was very good will watch “Prime Suspect” again this week. Maria Bello is very good in her role Hope the show is on for full year and can build its audience as more people become aware how good it is

NBC should move the show from Thursday night, let the show get a following and then move it to Thursday night next fall season. Give a show a good place to compete

    • Forwarddad

This show was moved to Mondays. Probably good slot for iy

No good going up against Castle and Hawaii 5-0, but that’s why god invented dvr’s.

  • bfett

Keep it on the air. Prime Suspect, Revenge and Person Of Interest (though needs a little improvement) are the 3 best new dramas this year.

  • Justin

This show has definitely grown on me. I hope it sticks around for a whole season.

  • Kacey

I really like this show as well…I was worried that it would be cancelled like so many drama’s I have loved over the years. Hopefully Prime Suspect will be around for a while!

  • charlotte

I really hope this show stays on the air. I think it’s a great show!

  • Dicazi

Hated the pilot and I haven’t seen it since.

It’s nice for once to actually agree with the posters on here. I am really enjoying this show and think that the back and forth between characters is great. Cant wait to see how the show pregresses

  • Quirky

This is the only NBC show that I find interesting enough to watch anymore.

  • jOE

Oh hell yeah!!! Look at NBC giving one of the best new dramas some well needed love!!! :) I love this show.

  • PB

Pretty good show with a solid cast. Hope NBC allows it the time to grow an audience. Tough time slot for a freshman drama though…..

  • Tracey

Every time I watch this show I am reminded of what great TV is. Brilliantly written and acted. It would be a shame to pull this show off the air.
I remember another show that was the best show that no one was watching, it was called Friday Night Lights. I’m not saying I have the same emotional attachment to this show as I had to FNL but the writing and acting are top notch. If NBC was smart they would give it a full season pick up and let it ride.
