'Glee' scoop: Chord Overstreet in negotiations to return

Fox

Chord Overstreet’s character Sam has been MIA from this season of Glee so far, but there’s a good chance that will change in the coming months: EW has confirmed that Overstreet is in negotiations to return as Sam, a.k.a. “Trouty Mouth,” later this year on the Fox hit. (TV Line first reported the news.)

The hope would be for him to do a handful of episodes and then potentially recur. Sam’s departure was explained in the season three premiere by his father getting a job in another town. But the big question is what this will mean for Amber Riley’s Mercedes, who began dating Sam in the season 2 finale but now has a new boyfriend. Meanwhile, a rep for studio 20th Century Fox would not confirm the news.

Haha! So, Chord now that your’re a nobody again (even though you were still one even on the show, be real, if you don’t watch Glee you don’t know Chord) and not finding work and that music career you wanted seems to be on the slow tracks you’re in “talks to return”, eh? And RIB, now that you realized your mistake of hiring Lamarcus Tinker (Marcus/Shane/Mercedes boyfriend) you want to backtrack? A$$wh*les on both sides. This is good news though, hopefully Shane/Marcus will leave, Lamarcus can’t act and every since his character made Mercedes b*tch flip on Rachel he isn’t a fave of mine. Maybe a love triangle for Mercedes?. . .yeah, I barfed too.

    • Carmen

Whoa. Easy there Pauly. No need to get yourself worked up.

      • lisa g.

        Haha, right! Pauly is trippin!

      • lisa g.

Is he handsome to anyone here?

      • Jenny

F88ck off with all the pathetic Glee articles EW.

Not everybody is into prancing teen hom8tards.

      • Karen

@Jenny – Yeah, EW. Only review shows that Jenny likes.

    • RCB

I think Mercedes is indeed pregnant (symptoms were established). Question is who is the father? Current bf or Sam? Baby will prove that the baby daddy is Sam.

      • Peggy

I don’t think she is pregnant. There are other conditions that match her symptoms, such as diabetes.

      • Allie

        ….diabetes is a pregnancy symptom? .-.

      • Speech Teacher

First of all, yes gestational diabetes is not at all uncommon in pregnant women, however, I think you misunderstood the comment. I thought Peggy was saying the symptoms Mercedes is displaying could ALSO be symptoms of diabetes, instead of pregnancy.

      • Mere

        @Speech Teacher- well said :-)
@RCB- it could also be that the character is pretty lazy when it comes to New Directions (she annoys me with the whining)

      • Holden

@RCB: Don’t know if Mercedes is pregnant (Amber Riley says the character isn’t), but a “who’s the baby daddy” storyline could bring some wild drama.

    • Michelle

did he get some acting lessons while he was gone

      • Breckin Meyer

whatever he does will be better than Darren Criss’s acting as Blaine, he has two expressions happy and sad, and is soooooooo Boring, welcome back Sam!

      • darrab

well, at least he’s better than darren criss whether he or not he got any.

      • Edward

Chord Overstreet & Darren Criss are both MUCH better actors than Breckin Meyer.

    • Nothing Can Keep Us Together

his father is famous enough for the both of them. which is more then we can say about you

    • Pauloly

      Hey, Pauly, U mad?

    • Alexis

Before running your mouth do some research. Chord is still doing his record, he hasn’t finished it yet. And I imagined they realized that a lot of people really liked him, so they’re giving him a better deal. They really screwed him over the first time around.

      • E

Sweety, Chord doesn’t actually have a record deal with anyone. The stuff he’s recording – he’s paying for it all himself & praying someone likes it enough to sign him to a record company. Except it hasn’t happened. No wonder he’s going crawling back to Glee.

    • MikeyM

It was not his decision to leave. Why you hating on him????
He is coming back for the fans.

      • Athena

LOL, of course it was his decision to leave. He’s the one who walked. He’s coming back because he needs the pay check.

      • HTC

Chord left because Murphy was only offering him a part-time gig. Murphy did not handle the Glee off-season well at all, and he doesn’t appear to communicate well with any of his actors. If Murphy made Chord a decent offer, I don’t blame him for coming back.

    • darrab

Lol, it looks more like Glee came begging back to Chord.

THe guy’s been busy with working his new album and guest appearances on TV, so it looks like the Glee exes were who REALLY wanted him back…

Anyway, now that he’s back on Glee, I think I have to sart watching again. I stopped after he left, since alongside Kurt he’s the only character I really care about.

  • Joe G.

Why was he even let go from the show?? I really like his character…esp. when he was in the shower, dressed as Rocky, etc.

    • Traci

He wasn’t let go. He chose to leave. I guess he didn’t find any other work.

      • sam

he was let go but chose to leave because they couldn’t guarantee him that he would be a regular — ryan murphy sucks.

      • HT

Lol, if you think Ryan Murphy is humble enough to accept an actor back who asks to return you don’t know him at all. I’m pretty sure the people at Glee are the ones who approached Chord and asked him to come back. They must have offered him a better deal this time around and he accepted. Simple as that. As for “didn’t find any other work,” he’s been working on his album and has a guest role on “The Middle,” so.

      • kate middleton

HT is right. There is NO way Ryan Murphy would take him back just to be nice – they wanted him.

      • kahuna

The fans let Murphy know about dissing Overstreet in no uncertain terms. Murphy was all over the place about Chord’s dismissal. Last I heard, after the uproar, Murphy offered Chord a recurring role, and Chord declined the offer. Glee’s ratings have suffered a serious decline this season. Maybe it’s a desperation move by Murphy to make peace with Chord and bring him back.

      • darrab

Well, from the sounds of it, he’s been pretty busy before Glee came and lured him back.

  • kate

He has what will probably be a recurring role on the Middle as Brick’s teacher. I could see him being on at least the same number of episodes as Doris Roberts’ was last year as Brick’s teacher, especially since Frankie hasn’t run into him yet.

    • jillyb

I thought he did pretty well as Brick’s teacher. Loved the scene between him and Brick’s father.

  • abadstroller

I think rather than Chord wanting to leave, it sounds like–for whatever reason–Ryan Murphy wasn’t encouraging him to stay either. Whatever the case, I think both sides are thinking about how good they had it the first time around. I like “Sam” and those Steven Tyler lips of his! Abs-olutely (pun intended)! Get that boy back here!

    • vanka

      Totally agree with you!

    • MikeyM

They wanted him to do a handful of episodes and he refused. Maybe they offered him something more.

  • Sara

Ugh, why? The show was doing so much better without him.

Oh, well, I guess that excited music career Chord had lined up isn’t working out.

    • darrab

Lol, that’s rich. Have you seen the decline in the show’s ratings? And Chord’s music career is going fine, he’s been pretty busy with working on his new album.

  • Howie

Ugh. Glee, WTF. There is no need to bring him back the audience has adjusted to his absence. Ugh. Can’t wait until Lea Michele leaves after this season, so I can leave too. The Glee writers and RIB can’t stick to a decision to save their life.

    • Puckleberry

      Same here, Howie.

    • HTC

“Adjusted to his absense” may be a bit harsh. The question is whether Sam can bring anything worthwhile to the show. The character was never well-developed. He only started to get interesting when his family went homeless, and soon after that, he was gone. The clumsy writing isn’t the actor’s fault. Still, with the impending arrival of Rory and whoever Samual Larsen will play, the show is getting overloaded.

  • kgm

Woopee! And I mean pee…..a whole cast of losers, except jane lynch, who deserves so much better than this crap. Sounds like ol chord is finally blowin ryan again.

  • LOL

    America loves crap.

    • abadstroller

There you are, LOL! I was wondering if you had found something productive to do besides posting the same line on EVERYTHING. Apparently, you haven’t. Oh well, there’s always tomorrow….

      • LOL

It’s a thankless job, but somebody has to do it.

      • Hali

        Now that made me LOL.

  • Leila

Honestly I had nothing against him as a character, but he hasn’t been missed at all this season. He was a pretty weak character. Plus the romance with Mercedes was a total throwaway. They barely acknowledge each other all season and then all of sudden they’re dating? I like her new relationship this season.

    • Tiffany

I don’t think the relationship would have been a throwaway if Chord would have stayed on the shoe. People, well I was, were talking about it and interested at the end of last season.

    • darrab

He has been missed, all my friends stopped watching Glee when he left. Me included.

  • lexi

THe Whole Chord/Sam leaving the show thing seems more like a publicity stunt now! First make a big deal about letting him go, then turn around say he choose to leave insteand then to now bring him back so the audience will be all happy he’s back when he really just left to do the Middle. What a joke!

    • tom

if it were a publicity stunt, it wouldn’t have angered so many people and made glee dive in the ratings.

      • pleasefox

I didn’t say it was a good publicity stunt just shows you how stupid RM really is, he keeps pissing of his fans with his crazy antics and stunts.

  • tom

At least ryan murphy is finally listening to fans who miss and love chord overstreet. He should be a series regular.

    • Noway

RM is an idiot and Glee should be cancelled ASAP

      • Hali

        I just wish they’d fire RM… he’s what’s wrong with the show.

      • DEA

@Hali: I’m with you on that.

    • Dinjab

Yeah, Ryan Murphy gives a crap what “Tom” thinks. He reads your Twitter feed every night while jerking himself. Oh, yeah, Tom, you want some CHORD OVERSTREET, yeah, do ya/

    • kahuna

@tom. ITA. Bring back Girl Lips. :)

  • pleasefox

Do Us All a Favor and Cancel Glee before they make another movie with his Big Fish Lips in 3D

    • Rock Hard

I want those fish lips wrapped around my…..

    • MikeyM

      Nasty are we?

  • wierdalexj

YESSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Loved Sam and I hope he returns!

  • Pslightly Psycho

This just in to EW.com’s Hourly GLEE Update: Lea Michele took a massive BM this morning; it was shaped like a keobasah and smelled like Satan’s armpits. More on this breaking news next hour.

    • MikeyM

      What about Chord’s BM.

  • Pogi

Yeah, I was a little annoyed when Sam wasn’t going to be on this season. His story was actually progressing with his dad and also Mercedes. But then he left and everything adjusted. Now he’s back? What on earth is the story going to be? His dad got poor again so the decided to come back to live in that hotel? Confusing….whatever though.
