Death Watch 2011: Fall TV Survival Status Week 5

How to be a Gentleman (CBS): 2.7, 8.4 million
Canceled

Up All Night (NBC): 2.2, 6.5 million
Full season pick up for a show that’s modest in the ratings (at least they’ve stopped dropping). The pedigree was just too good to give up on early (and Maya Rudolph deserves her own show).

Charlie’s Angels (ABC): 1.8, 7.4 million
Canceled. Can Minka Kelly go back to Parenthood now?

Prime Suspect (NBC): 1.5, 6.3 million
Status: Every once in a while, a struggling new show is worth saving. It’s a promising sign that the network ordered six more scripts to keep the show in production but…that’s so, so far from a back nine pickup. Sadly, we’re feeling more pessimistic than optimistic about this Maria Bello starrer.

Playboy Club (NBC): 1.5, 4.9 million
Canceled

A Gifted Man (CBS): 1.3, 8.7 million
Status: The bar is set pretty low for Fridays, so this drama starring Patrick Wilson could stay put for longer than you think. Tough to see this making it to a second season, however.

Free Agents (NBC): 1.5, 3.8 million
Canceled

Secret Circle (The CW): 1.0, 2.4 million
Full season pickup

Ringer (The CW): .9, 2.2 million
Full season pickup

Hart of Dixie (The CW): 0.7, 1.9 million
Full season pickup

you got to be kidding, are they really going to be bring “The Flintstones” back?…. ahh with crap like “Whitney” and “Last Man Standing” on the air it could not be any worse!

    • Joel

Seth McFalrlane got tapped to remake The Flinstones earlier this year. I have no idea what to make of it. He worked for Hanna Barbara before developing Family Guy. I will withhold judgement until I see what kind of show he makes out of it.

    • PU SSYM AN

I want to make love to Revenge.

      • C

Why is this a reply to a post about the Flintstones?

      • PU SSYM AN

I got so much poison, if you will, in my system, I’m not thinking straight. Sorry.

    • Jon

      stop being such a snob

  • Edit

At the bottom of the post, TBD should not follow NBC’s Smash. It has a premiere date of Feb. 6.

  • Eric

I really like Terra Nova. I hope it survives. : /

    • Samantha

I don’t know if it’s the set design, the way it is shot or the budget (I’m guessing a little of all three) but I find it really hard to get into it because every place they’re at just looks so fake and staged. I do like the show though, I think it has potential!

      • Hudson

I have the same reaction to the sets/fake scenery. It also reminds of the 1970s series “Land of the Lost” where a family is thrown back in time and has to survive amongst the dinosaurs. Though the dinosaurs in Terra Nova cost a lot more and look a bit better. It is growing on me a little …

  • Katherine

Forget the Flinstones! A Napoleon Dyanmite series?? I love Pedro as much as the next girl, but that doesn’t mean it’s a good idea to put an even lamer Napoleon on tv week after week. Leave a cult classic, a classic, people!

    • Dave

I think the Napoleon Dynamite series is animated, if that makes any difference.

      • Clete

If iit’s animated, that would make it a cut above the movie.

      • AJohnson

Yes, it is animated, and all the original actors are returning to do the voices. Everyone from Jon Heder (Napolean) and Diedrich Bader (Rex Kwon Do) to Jon Gries (Uncle Rico) and Aaron Ruell (Kip). I, for one, am rather looking forward to it.

    • B

I shook my head in confusion when I read this one also. The movie was just on TV a few weeks ago and I tried watching it, and it just didn’t hold up for me. It was more annoying than amusing, frankly.

I’m a bit puzzled as to why they are only NOW making this into a series – animated or not, it seems tired.

  • lisa g.

Revenge needs more promo! Seems like It’s all but stopped since the show started!

Ps… I know technically It’s not wrong, but I hate when cancelled us spelled with ONE “l”. Stop it!

    • Gramma

I hate it when “is” is spelled with a u. Stop it!

      • lisa g.

Too bad u were too poor n had to drop out of school n 2nd grade gramma…otherwise you’d know is isn’t spelled w/ an u n that that’s a typo that i didn’t feel the need to correct! Poor old thing!

      • asher

LOL Gramma – lisa g. is annoying, get used to it!

      • lisa g.

Asher is a NITWIT. Get used to it!

    • Michelle

Unless you’re from the UK, it is spelled “canceled”.

      • angie

smarty pants…its spelled “cancelled” -two L’s – in Canada too.

      • lisa g.

@ Michelle….o really. Thx for that Tidbit.

    • Kevin

I hate when people capitalize words that shouldn’t be capitalized… “it’s” really annoying!

      • lisa g.

Hi Kevin….I see brad let u up for air!

  • Craig

I enjoy Pan Am, but with its ratings continuing to fall, it’ll be gone before November sweeps.

    • The Real Craig

Pan Am is sooooooooooooo Boring….. it is like watching paint dry, C-Span is more exciting!

    • vincentdante

the three-episode arc beginning Sunday will probably determine the ultimate status of this show.

    • Kelli

I really like Pan AM too. It’s got adventure, real life scenarios (in the 60′s) and good actors. I can’t wait until Sunday night to see the next show.

  • LMFAO

    America still loves Minka.

    • C

no not really ..she is destined for Skinamax flix, not talented just face and boobs!

    • Samantha

No, they don’t. She’s so overrated!

    • KHS

I like Minka! I think she’s a natural beauty and has a very interesting life story. However, her acting is very average. But she’s a great supporting character actress. She definitely should stick with the Friday Night Lights/Parenthood roles. That is where she excels–playing a small, yet intricate, part to interesting stories.

  • Ally

“Untitled Rob Schneider comedy” G’head and cancel it

    • Dave

It’s gonna be on CBS so it’ll probably be a huge hit.

    • Cris

Shouldn’t they just title it “Rob Schneider Derpa Derpa Deedly Derp”?

    • kgb

Better than the crap I am sure you watch, probably American Id(i)o(t)l and Desperate Housewives of whatever stupid city they are currently airing.

  • Debbie

Am I the only one watching A Gifted Man? It is such a good show!!

    • riley

actually, you’re not the only one watching that show!! I like a Gifted Man too!

    • lisa g.

I like it but keep forgetting about it!

    • Shayla

Actually,a lot of people watch that show..they’re just old..

    • Debbie 2

I tried first episode online this week and liked it so much I watched the rest the same day. Great show.

  • Hillary

Did anybody else notice that How to be a Gentleman is listed on the homepage as “TV to Watch” tonight??

    • C

They have had Ryan Goslings pic up for 4 months ( so sick of it) , so I think they rarely update anything!

      • MikeyM

I never get tired of Ryan’s abs.

  • lee

revenge is my favorite new show of the season, and a surprising one because i just watched it on a whim. more people should be watching it.

    • Craig Riley

Love Revenge too. It’s one of the few shows I’m actually excited to watch each week. Relentlessly dark, but utterly compelling. Not put a foot wrong so far, and the In Media Res première was a masterstroke of writing which casts a shadow of doom over the whole show.

    • KHS

I am loving Revenge as well! It’s fun and dramatic–but not too serious. I’m anticipating the rest of the season!

  • tricia

I’m not surprised at the CW pick-ups. Really what else are they going to show that will do any better? It’s not like they have a bunch of other shows in their pipeline or a Dateline type show that they can just throw on at a moment’s notice.

  • dmh

Revenge….best new show on tv!!!!!!!!! Well done..and good acting. Put it on Sunday night 10 p.m. and watch it really take off

  • MikeyM

Two Broke Girls, New Girl and Man Up were not funny…at all.
    Love Revenge and Secret Circle.
Terra Nova is an embarrassment especially after they Cancelled Firefly after one season.

    • The unknown stuntman

Firefly is the TV equivalent of the emperors new clothes, it’s badly written, budget sci-fi with clunky dialogue… But you’re not allowed to say!

  • LAR

I cannot believe the ratings for Up All Night are so low! Last night’s birth episode was hilarious!!

    • Dee

Up All Night is Retarded! Not Funny at All.

      • Deez nuts

Up All Night is awesome. Dee, u can suck it.
