An X Files veteran and former Seattle Grace bigwig is signing onto TNT’s Dallas.
Mitch Pileggi has joined the show for a multi-episode arc playing Harris Ryland, owner of Ryland Trucking and Shipping. He’s described as an “alpha male” and Ann’s (Brenda Strong) ex-husband.
Since his role as FBI Assistant Director Walter Skinner on X Files, Pileggi has been the king of multi-episode arcs on hit series. He’s had stints on Sons of Anarchy, Supernatural, Medium, and Grey’s Anatomy. TNT’s Dallas was recently rocked by the news that co-star Larry Hagman has been diagnosed with cancer. But the actor best known for the original 1980s version of Dallas is still expected to participate in new show, which is set to premiere next summer. If you haven’t yet seen the Dallas trailer, you can find it here.

Yay Skinner!!!
I read he hates being called Skinner.
SKINNER!!! Superintendent Chalmers!
Superduperintendent Chalmers
Ralph called him Supernintendo Chalmers.
Didn’t we just learn his name is Gary
AMAZING news. And not just because of his X Files years. Pileggi is definitely an alpha male type of character actor and I think, depending upon how he comes off on the show, could and should be considered for a full time part on the show.
He’s also great because he has a leg in his Pigi.
Ok…seriously. Is Stargate a dirty word in the industry now? Pileggi did multiple episodes in multiple seasons of Atlantis. Not a mention. Also, when Conan hit theaters no one ever mentioned Jason Momoa’s connection to SG. And he was a REGULAR cast member. What gives?
Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!! You said Stargate! I’m gonna tell.
Agreed. Maybe the industry hates sci fi? (except Trek it seems) loved Momoa on SGA & Pillegi’s Caldwell was good too.
It may be because Atlantis wasn’t on a “big” network. The article may have a size limit; can’t put all his credits here. Just a thought.
According to IMDB Mitch Pileggi was on
Sons of Anarchy – 12 times
Supernatural – 8 times
Medium – 4 times
Grey’s Anatomy – 8 times
And on Stargate Atlantis – 22 times!!!!
Show Stargate some love.
I wonder if JR will have flashbacks to his time in the sanitarium when he sees Mitch. Mitch played a psychotic mental patient named Morrissey intent on killing JR in 1990.
Pileggi actually appeared in a 4-episode arc during the last season of the original Dallas playing a sanitarium inmate named Morrisey who harassed and threatened J.R. while he was being held “captive” there by his son James and wife Cally.
I read that exact info somewhere very recently. Hmmmm….where was it……oh, yeah, in the entry right before this.
Get it, Skinner.
If the Skinman gets anywhere near Sue Ellen, he’ll become a puppydog mess headed to drunken ruin. Can’t wait!
Science-fiction turns off the mainstream, Joe Six-Pack, American Idol-watching viewer. The mainstream are idiots. That is why no mention of Stargate or Atlantis. The X-Files was one of the rare sci-fi shows to cross over and become huge amongst all demographics.
Bring Gary and Valene back please.
Abby too.
As others have pointed out, Pileggi also appeared in the original series. So did Brenda Strong (she played a woman who had a one-night stand with Cliff).
