Friday ratings are here and once again, CBS’ new supernatural medical drama A Gifted Man is locked onto its usual modest number.
Gifted had 8.6 million viewers and its standard 1.2 adult demo rating, ranking as CBS’ lowest-rated Mon-Fri primetime show of the week. It’s lead-outs — CSI: NY (10.7 million, 1.8) and Blue Bloods (10.8 million, 1.7) — are stronger. We keep hearing CBS is on the verge of picking up Thursday’s Person of Interest and Tuesday’s Unforgettable for full seasons, while the rumor mill has been quiet on Gifted Man. CBS seems likely to air all 13 of the episodes, keeping the troublesome 8 p.m slot filled through the holidays. We would expect to at least hear about an order for more scripts next week if the show is going to continue beyond that.
So CBS tied ABC for the night, with the latter airing a two-hour Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (5.6 million, 1.4) and the premiere of 20/20 (7.6 million, 2.1). The news magazine was the night’s top-rated show and returned higher than last year.
Also Friday, Fox had Kitchen Nightmares (3.5 million, 1.4). Fringe was a repeat — and fans probably don’t even know that yet because more than half of them don’t watch the show on Friday nights (how dare you have a social life!).
Nikita (1.7 million, 0.6) and Supernatural (1.8 million, 0.7) see-sawed, with Nikita up a tick and Supernatural down.

full season?! I would ask: when will they pull the show? I think it’ll happen rather sooner than later.
No Doctor could ignore a waiting room full of sick, REALLY RICH patients like this guy does (EVERY FREAKING WEEK) and keep his job!!
His haunted @$$ should have been fired before the end of the 2nd episode!!!
Most ridiculous show CBS has probably EVER put on the air (and a total waste of some spectacularly talented cast members).
Lmao…funny but i like the show! The acting is not so great but i find the show to be appealing!
You don’t get it! The premise of the show is to show how this entitled Doctor is realizing what is important in life. Also that a spirit on the otherside can communicate with us if we listen. This is a wonderful meaningful show. It’s teaching us all to reach out to each other again!!! Come on people
Diana, we all understand your a fool.
@TV Viewer: You don’t know the difference between “your” and “you’re”. Who is the fool again?
@gazmo you do realize that the lead is Michael ‘Holt’ and the hospital is ‘Holt’ Neuro.. it is his fuc*in’ hospital.. so whether he treats rich patients or poor is none of anyone’s damn business… Oh and since ALSO you didn’t notice this… there ARE other doctors who treat the rich patients, so there is no question of losing them either… it’s not uncommon for big doctors to do ProBono work (free treatment for poor), I know coz my parents do that…
Thanks Furrina, I was just about to inform that joker of those facts.
Your dumb.
Thanks Diana,
Sometimes I wonder why the studios keep cranking out the same slop year-after-year and then I remember that there’s a large viewing public who, like ‘gazmo”, lack both sense and sensibility
Dear pov:
They keep cranking out sappy, soupy slop (like A Gifted Man) every year because sentimental brainless, drooling doofuses like you WATCH it. This Doc broke up with the ghost YEARS ago and never looked back (apparently she wasn’t EVER worth trying to find). Then she comes back dead and whispers ‘Be a good guy for the 1st time in your life’ into his ear and suddenly he can’t live without her???
HURRRRGGGGHHHH!!
What a bucket of lavender scented vomit this ridiculous show is!!!
You all is so dumb. Your never gonna be any thing.
The medical aspect is laughable.
I like the show too
I like the show. I make sure I watch it. That however is hard to do with it bouncing around like a rubber ball.
I could do without some of the other shows that are on.
Maybe some of these negative people need to become more sympathetic. Looks to me like they are all for themselves. Real egotistical rats.
I agree. This show makes no sense and has a very skewed sense of values. It’s okay if the guy wants to help the poor and uninsured, but he should be faithful to the responsibilities he has already committed to first.
Boy your dumb.
@TV Viewer: You’re dumb
You contrebute to the down fall of America.
Doel do not feed the Troll!
I heard they’re going to spin his forehead off into its own show.
LOL
I like this show. It’s the onlt thi.g on network tv that I watch. I hope it continues. I really like the addition of Rachel LeFevre.
Me too.
Tina, meet Nanam.
You two (and your 18 cats and your storage unit full of romance novels) would make GREAT roommates!
(22,782 hours of shows being broadcast by 753 traditional and cable networks every week . . . and THIS pablum is the ONLY show you watch???????)
@Tina and Nanam ~ Me 3. I like this show and Prime Suspect. Those are the 2 “new” shows I watch.
Hey Nanam and Lily: I hope this show survives. It’s not the greatest but the acting is top notch.
Gazmo: Say what you will about us but I think it’s really sad that your life is so empty that you have nothing better to do than comment on a show that you supposedly don’t watch. You also don’t read very well. I said on network tv. Happy to share one of my 18 cats with you. Lol
8.6 million on a Friday night? Most networks would jump for joy with that number.
They don’t look at overall viewers. They look at the demo. If they keep this show with the abysmal demo rating it has, why the hell did they cancel “Ghost Whisperer” a few years ago? It was doing better numbers than this.
I love “The Gifted Man.” It is as good as “ER” in its prime. If it was in the Thursday at 8/9 pm (Central/Eastern) timeslot after Big Bang and Rules of Engagement, it would be having monster ratings. It is way better than Unforgettable and Person of Interest.
As good as ER in it’s prime? You cannot be serious….this show may be some sort of feel good pablum and if that’s what you enjoy, that’s great….but it is not a great show…ER in it’s prime was one of the best dramas of it’s time….
Is i tmy imagination but he looks like Paul Newman when he was young. Well Paul Newman had bluer eyes.
I thought the same thing about a younger Paul Newman. I loved that show and actually made sure i never had plans on Friday night so I could watch it. It would have rated better had it not been friday night. They did the same thing with medium–kept it on friday night and wondered why the ratings were not better. Most people love things more violent now days and that is so sad.
10 million viewers but only a 1.7-1.8 demo for CBS? Those shows must be very popular in nursing homes and probably lame as well.
The “demo” only goes up to 49. There are quite a few viable humans in their 50′s and 60′s….Lets call them “baby boomers”. And I don’t get this “demo” ship at all. Advertisers need to woo OR hold onto people of all ages for products. Or so you would think. Having said that, I think its a pretty dull concept for a show. “Ghost Whisperer” was far more “trendy” and it was quite popular.
Shut up fool.
The Gifted Man is my favorite of the new shows!! It is sad that “The Powers That Be” only consider viewers ages 49 and under as important. George Clooney just turned 50 but bet if he spoke up in favor of The Gifted Man I bet TPTB would not ignore his opinion!
THE POWERS THAT RUN THE NETWORKS AREN’T AT GROUND-ZERO. THEY DON’T KNOW THAT TV HAS DETERIORATED TO REALITY SHOWS & SHOWS THAT ARE TERRIBLE & THE PRICE OF CABLE KEEPS RISING. THEY RUN THE PILOTS THRU SO FAST THAT HALF THE TIME WE DON’T KNOW THEY’RE ON BEC. THEY CHANGE THE SLOTS LIKE MUSICAL CHAIRS. A LOT OF SHOWS NEED TO BUILD A FOLLOWING & HAVE A CHANCE TO FIND THEIR AUDIENCE. ME & MOST OF MY FRIENDS THAT ARE HOME-BOUND HAVE SO FEW CHOICES WITH THE POOR OFFERINGS ON TV THAT NOW WE CALL EACH OTHER WHEN OUR FAVES COME ON : “A GIFTED MAN” IS AT THE TOP OF OUR LIST . IT’S THE FIRST MEDICAL SHOW I’VE LIKED. I’M A RETIRED NURSE & MICHAEL IS SO GOOD THAT HE’S A NATURAL & BELIEVABLE. COME ON FOLKS……EVERY SHOW DESERVES “ARTISTIC LICENSE”. CBS HAS A JEWEL ON THEIR HANDS BEC. THE TWO OPPOSING TYPES OF MEDICAL CARE ARE RICH WITH POSSIBILITIES FOR THE WRITERS TO DEVELOP FOR A LONG TIME. AND MAY THE SPONSORS KNOW THAT THEY’VE LOST A HUGE BLOCK OF VIEWERS WHO MIGHT BUY THEIR PRODUCTS BEC. OUR GROWING BOOMER GROUP HAS TUNED OUT. NO ONE LIKES ALL THE SHOWS BUT PLEASE DON’T TAKE ONE OF THE FEW SHOWS THAT WE LOVE…….EFH
The scripts are so cliche. Get better writers and it should be OK.
Ita.
We love this show and it has an outstanding cast.
Soon they’ll be out standing on the unemployment line.
ha ha! you made me giggle
Please don’t encourage this loser.
Please crawl back into your sewer;
Whiney, humorless TV Viewer.
Fringe was a repeat? I probably have that episode on my DVR already, I wanted to watch a new episode dang.
I enjoy this show and really hope CBS gives it a chance. Besides, I just read that networks are (supposedly) paying more attention to the DVR +7 numbers. What are the results for A Gifted Man when DVR numbers are added in? Given that it’s a Friday show, maybe many people watch it later (including me).
My husband and I do DVR it and watch it later. And we really love the show. The acting is great! I’m not so “into” the ghost thing, but I like seeing the development of the Michael Holt character into a more compassionate doctor. I think it has potential.
I love the show. Only new show i watch. I think good without dead wife & maybe why some people dont watch or give it a try.
samueladawg say ” . . .I think good without dead wife . . .
Me wonder how long samueladawg’s wife be dead??
An idiot who thinks he/she/it’s funny. What a rarity on the internet.
An idiot who has NO sense of humor and is proud of it!
There’s WAY too many like you on the internet, WOW (that’s short for Withered Old Willie).
STOP BY ANYTIME, I’M HERE ALL WEEK!
Gazmo, you are not funny.
TV Viewer:
You’re entitled to your opinion, but I get as many “LMAOs” as I get sour grapes from dried up old prunes who crit my wit!!
What you don’t have, apparently , is a life.
What you don’t have (undoubtedly) Sue, is a man.
Wonder why THAT is??
I guess it’s a wait and see. They’re waiting until the ratings build up. It’s been stuck in the mid 40s since it started in September.
Hey, here’s an idea – if you’re going to do a show about a callous, accomplished professional who starts to see things (you know, ghosts or, maybe, visions), why not just bring back the far superior show that obviously “inspired” A Gifted Man, Eli Stone? (BTW, this is not’ one of those “they never should have cancelled…” rants that bother the heck out of me. I’m just annoyed that this show is such a blatant copy of another show that just couldn’t pull in the ratings.)
I agree that it’s kind of a rip-off of Eli Stone, but I wish they had gone all the way and also included musical numbers! “A Gifted Man”‘s cast is stuffed with amazing Broadway actors (Patrick Wilson, Raul Esparza, Aaron Lazar, Brynn O’Malley…)
Jennifer Ehle (the dead wife) has won 2 Tonys as well.
THERE you go. A George Michael guest appearance couldn’t help but improve things!
And do not forget the Emmy winner, Margo Martindale. She is the reason I watch “Gifted Man”.
I watch this show. I like it.
Oh yeah, you like to watch huh
This is an ok show, but it is a crime the way that they have wasted Margo Martindale. She deserves a much better part than grumpy secretary. Maybe Justified can bring Mags back to life?
CBS and their stupid shows, every night they dominate in the ratings in mass viewership. the system is screwed something isn’t right.
It’s you that’s not right, and everyone like you who thinks your opinion is fact. You’re entitled to watch, enjoy and say whatever you want, as are the millions and millions of people who watch CBS.
SUE!!!
You’re just like krystal!!
You think your opinion is fact.
(imagine that)
Your all so dumb.
You mean “you’re” not “your”.
Illiterate moron dumbass.
Dumbass is not a word bi t c h
Dumbass is the PERFECT word.
It means “an illiterate moron with a face like a baby’s butt (which wore the same diaper unchanged for 11 days).
And YOU, fine sir, are a complete and total, all-capital letters, DUMBASS!
Thanks for sharing your shortcomings and humorless intellect with the rest of us who SOOOO enjoy laughing at your dumbass comments!!
I like the show and would love to see it get picked up for a full season.
Oh really, taw? Well nobody cares what a taw thinks!
