Kelsey Grammer's 'Boss' gets decent start in ratings

Boss-Kelsey-Grammer

Kelsey Grammer’s return to TV on Starz’ Boss got off to a decent start in the ratings on Friday night. The grim political thriller delivered a total of 1.7 million viewers across multiple airings its opening weekend. That’s okay for Starz, though down from Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, which clocked 2.8 million viewers its first weekend, and down slightly from Torchwood: Miracle Day (2 million) and Camelot (1.6 million for Friday alone). Hmm, perhaps “semi-decent” is more apt?

Starz has already taken then fate-tempting step of renewing Boss for a second season before the first one started, a move that doesn’t always turn out well (remember Showtime’s Huff?). But if Boss can continue at this same number, or better yet grow, the decision shouldn’t keep any executives up at night.

I watched it last Friday and although I always liked “Frazier”, “Boss” did not blow me away. I will give it at least two more episodes and then decide. I like “Homeland” much better as well as “Strike Force”.

My best friend has just announced her wedding with a great man who is a cele+brity!
      They met-via { millionaireluv.сσм }
It is nice club for rich men or pretty girls mate.
You do not need to be wealthy or famous, but you can meet your true love, it’s worthy a try.

        knock it off azz rash!

It was good. The true test will be whether I keep tuning in. I started watching “Boardwalk” and never watched again after second episode. Didn’t dislike it, just not interesting enuf to keep me coming back.

I agree. I thought I was going to follow Boardwalk, but I ended up not that interested. Boss however, doesn’t have that same feel. I actually want to know what’s going to happen next.

cause you don’t get it simpleton!

  • Charlie Harper’s Ghost

Neither of you have any taste in true dialogue…

Thought it was good … but, should have gone harder. The nudity was unexpected and really lent some grit …. right?
He’s great … comedy actors always make the best dramatic actors …. remember Don Rickles in Casino? Terrific performance. Let Kelsey Live!

The reason I loved it? They got the details right. The O’Hare expansion lawsuit and finagling, the way Daley manhandles Chicago alderman — all spot on. And yeah, yeah, the writers say it isn’t based on a particular mayor, but we recognize the type immediately.

    • Brian

Bingo. There was a cop show earlier this year or last on FOX that got canceled because the writers didn’t understand the subtlety needed with Chicago stereotypes nor what our political culture is really about. A lame plotline that has the Irish Mob in control of things and setting everything in front of the El tracks doomed to failure because none of who live it believed it.

Boss, however, gets the O’Hare saga right, makes mention of the neighborhoods, even has the mayor in a Sox hat, and gave Kenny Williams – the Stealth Bomber – a cameo. And Kelsey Grammer, the lout that he is, a brilliant actor nonetheless. Good stuff, I’ll be tuning in again.

It is good to see Kelsey Grammer playing unfrasier like characters.

If more people knew about the show, it would have higher ratings…..not much promotion.
I liked it. Not “Breaking Bad” or even as good as “Dexter,” but I’ll watch it again for sure.

Didn’t BOSS already get a second season nod? Then again, so did CAMELOT until Starz changed their mind. TORCHWOOD was the best original (okay, semi-original!) series on Starz since I’ve been a subscriber…wish they wouldn’t be so quick to pull the trigger on cancellations (word is TORCHWOOD isn’t going to return…well, maybe on the BBC, but not on Starz).

    • Tess

Where have you heard that Torchwood isn’t returning? Last I read Starz had left it in the hands of showrunner Russell T. Davies because they were game so long as he was – but he’s supposedly working on other projects which is why it’s still in limbo.
Frankly, I;d rather it go back to being on BBC/BBCA rather than Starz, since the show was better before they got involved – but I am afraid without Starz ponying up some money for it, the BBC won’t be willing to invest in another season.

It’s a marketing ploy. I’m guessing, most times, it works, but they’ve played the card so much that it’s getting old.

    • rondo

Torchwood should be torched. Juvenile crap.

Although I liked it very much, the show had a strange pace brought about by either directing or editing. I also thought the sound was not good. I hate having to grab the remote to turn the volume up or down every few minutes. Kelsey Grammar was great. I wasn’t thinking Frasier Crane from the get go. I hope the show continues the character development and does well.

My best friend’s mom makes $77 an hour on the computer. She has been out of job for 9 months but last month her check was $7487 just working on the computer for a few hours. Read about it here Nutty Rich.com

Yeah-your BF mom offerred me a job too…a blow job! She said she charges $1.00 per and makes upwards of $77.00 an hour .Of course she said to get $77 she has to use all of her…inputs (hands too) but that she FLOVES it..

“down from Spartacus: Gods of the Arena.” Okay, that means Kelsey has to show his butt and wiener to increase ratings.

  • lindseym

I don’t want to see Kelsey’s butt or wiener. EVER!

Terrible show. I hated it. Color by numbers, made by committee affair. Doesn’t seem to have a hint of reality. Kelsey Grammar is just doing this for a paycheck, and it’s sad.

  • brutony

This was bloody AWFUL! Pure rubbish! At least I watched the full season of Boardwalk-too slow moving for me, even though the pilot kept me interested. I lost interest in this within the first 25 minutes, and that was the hilite! NEXT!
