CBS pulls Friday dramas due to World Series

Tags: News

CBS is outta here. With the World Series going into a seventh game tonight, CBS is pulling its original episodes of CSI: NY, Blue Bloods and — brace yourself — A Gifted Man. Repeats will air instead — the Gifted Man pilot, then encores of CSI: NY and CSI: Miami (no Blue Bloods).

This helps NBC (a little) with its plan to move forward with the season premiere episodes of Chuck and Grimm. Why is CBS changing and NBC staying the same? It’s easier to make this switch with shows that have been on for awhile rather than heavily promoted premieres.

What’s your problem. I look forward to A Gifted Man. I like it, it wins its time period and the star really sells it. Maybe if you actually watched it instead of thinking up snarky comments, you might like it as well.

    • themusicaddict.blogspot.com

i agree, I really like “A Gifted Man”

      • shuido

You know, some of us don’t give two craps about baseball (it’s not like it’s a football playoff game) so why take away programming for those of us who don’t want to watch the World Series?!.BTW,I wanna share a good news to you.My best friend ,she just has announced her wedding with a millionaire man who is a celebrity !they met via Matchriches.CoM ..it is the largest and best club for celebrity and their admirers to chat online. You do not have to be rich or famous. ,but you can meet one , It’s worthy a try,Maybe you wanna check it out or tell your friends!

      • Carlos

@Shuido, I agree. A lot of people in the U.S. out of 300 million don’t watch baseball. Baseball is boring and their numbers are down. Most of they players are from Puerto Rico, Domincian Republic, and Cuba. It’s not an all American sport anymore.

      • David

Um…Carlos? Do you realize you replied to a spammer who plagiarized the first sentence of his post from someone else?

      • Lily

Me2 ~ I really like A Gifted Man and was glad to see the pilot last night which I’d never seen. Think it’s a cool show.

    • The Dude

I think the author’s comment is less of a criticism of “A Gifted Man” and more of a comment suggesting that the audience for “A Gifted Man” (skewing towards older females) isn’t necessarily the same as the World Series (skewing towards younger males). I think the author was suggesting that CBS didn’t really have to pull a new episode from the line-up, considering it’s one of the only shows that probably wouldn’t suffer from baseball coverage.

    • lisa g.

Lmao at donovan. S/he is right, though!

    • lisa g.

@ the dude…..I totally disagree with u! Ew has ran several articles about the fate and ratings of f A Gifted Man leading me to think Mr. Hibberd was taking a dig.

    • Brenda

I also agree, I like A Gifted Man. I think @the dude is Hibberd explaining the comment.

    • Carlos

I like the Gifted Man too.

  • Me

Watching the World Series, of course! BUT DVRing GRIMM. Saw the premiere online 3 times and LOVED it!

    • brutony

Why would you DVR Grimm when youve seen it three times already? Do you work for NBC/Universal/Comcast?

      • jj

seriously, methinks i smell an NBC intern. why would you watch a show like this three times i get it if you haven’t seen it in a while but i don’t if its fresh in your memory. i mean, THREE?

      • Carlos

Maybe he’s unemployed and have lot’s of time on his hands. LOL

  • BobDecker

A Gifted Man = Ghost Whisperer 2: Electric Boogaloo

    • jj

      i love this comment.

  • Me

Hey donovan, I agree about GM. I’d watch Patrick Wilson read me the friggin Yellow Pages. Beats the hell out of MADMEN and 300th LAW and Order spinoff.

    • Meg

please don’t put mad men and the 300th law and order spinoff in the same sentance

  • Liz

Screw baseball. I want my Blue Bloods.

    • MLB

I couldn’t agree more…first Fringe, now this. I guess I can catch up on my Netflix tonight.

    • lisa g.

I wonder why they chose not to run a rerun of BB? Let’s hope It’s a good game n not a snoozer like 99% of baseball games!

      • Nathan

        and 100% of Blue Bloods.

      • lisa g.

I don’t think so! Blue Bloods gets a solid B+ every week!

    • Carlos

@Liz, I agree. Blue Bloods was going to be good tonight. I am watching Sanctuary and it’s boring so far this season.

  • Beauty

    Good, looking forward to Grimm!

  • Lyndsey

You know, some of us don’t give two craps about baseball (it’s not like it’s a football playoff game) so why take away programming for those of us who don’t want to watch the World Series?!

    • Ace

Because they don’t want to get crushed in ratings like last night’s primetime shows did. Go Cardinals !!

    • md

it’s better than a football play-off game! i don’t give two craps about football and i don’t throw a hissy fit when that’s on or it runs over to mess up the scheduling

      • Lyndsey

How often does football interfere with regular programming??? During the week any college games & even the NFL are only played on sports channels & I don’t think any broadcast channel airs new original programming on Saturdays when college football runs for most of the day & night. It might delay it a bit on Sundays but other channels don’t pull their programming to avoid it! It’s one thing for it to pre-empt the shows on Fox but it shouldn’t affect other channels.
Oh, and you might want to check your ratings these days. Baseball is no longer “America’s Pastime”! Football pulls in much larger numbers…thus why the major NCAA conferences are easily pulling in multi-billion dollar TV deals!!!! And unlike all the egomanical professional sports, college sports actually care about giving the fans, who put that money in their pockets, what they pay for!!

      • md

@Lyndsey – YOU May want to do some research College/NFL football is NOT just aired on ‘sports’ channels – ALL THE MAJOR NETWORKS air both
Saturday may not run any new programs but what about those who don’t want to watch football on a saturday might and who don’t have cable?!?
don’t make me laugh about college sports – Miami anyone?!?! UConn?!? yeah they care but not in the way rules are laid out

      • Lyndsey

Actually, YOU need to do a little research! Football games are NOT aired on any of the networks during the week (even the NFL Monday night game is on ESPN)!!! They only appear on the networks on Saturdays & Sundays.
And you can’t blame football for the lack of Saturday original programming as it’s not just a void during football season. Networks don’t air new shows because so many people DON’T watch TV that night…the majority are usually out of the house (dinner, movies, bars, etc)! And if you choose to stay home & don’t like what’s on TV then you could watch a movie or, and I know this is out there, you could read a book!!!!!
Nothing that involves people, & especially large sums of money, is scandal free! Yet, despite the problems, colleges still field teams every week! You don’t see an entire month of games getting scrapped because the parties involved can’t agree! Pretty much only an act of God will get a game that fans have paid to see cancelled (even then, we’ve played football games only a couple of days after a hurricane came through)!!

    • Keith

Yeah it’s not like an football playoff game-it’s Game 7 of the World Series-far better than a playoff game. It’s equal to the Super Bowl.

      • Liz

The last I checked Baseball doesn’t come with half time show and awesome new commercials. So no, it’s not equal to the Super Bowl. And also, where is the baseball version of Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl?

      • lisa g.

Liz, ur wrong. It’s a big deal n I’m not even a baseball fan.

      • Louis E.

        Amen…baseball good,football bad.

      • Tania

baseball is just as good as Football it’s the World Series

  • Kerry

A Gifted Man is a good show!!
It seems to get better every week……

    • Jon

      You have no taste.

  • Damon

You guys do know they will show these episodes just on another night.

  • Anna

I like A Gifted Man too, and the I-see-ghosts genre does not normally appeal to me *at all*. I like the stars and have been enjoying the episodes. In any case, we will be watching the game and DVRing longtime favorite Chuck and Grimm, so we’re happy at our house.

  • natacha

WTF, THEY DECIDE TO SHOW THE GAME TONIGHT AND PEOPLE THAT ARE PLANNING TO WATCH THEIR FAVORITE SHOWS GET TO SUFFER, THAT IS NOT FAIR. THEIR GOES MY PLANS FOR BLUE BLOODS, I’M REALLY PISS RIGHT NOW

    • Zoe

Oh get over it. We’ve been waiting two weeks for a new Fringe, and the last one ended on a serious cliffhanger. Now it will be three weeks. What has it been–a whole six days since the last Blue Bloods? Boo hoo.

    • md

the scheduling for all sports is done way in advanced so they just ‘didn’t decide’ to show the game tonight.
granted postponing game six due to rain was no one’s fault unless you all want to blame mother nature

      • Liz

Sheesh, Baseball players are wimps, they can’t even play in a little bit of rain. What’s the worst that could happen, the field might be a little slippery. They need to get over it, grow up, and play ball.

      • Sara

Actually, Liz, there are a lot of nasty ways a player could injure himself on a really messed up field. And playing any sport in an electrical storm is dangerous.

      • ikagirl

@Liz, we get it. You know nothing about baseball and don’t like it. Many do, so stop being a troll about it.

      • Liz

@ikagirl only trolls call other people trolls, so if I’m a troll, you’re a troll

      • David

@Liz – Wow, great comeback. (Not!)
You went the “I know you are, but what am I?” route.
Stop acting like a spoiled brat and grow up!

      • Jerad

They delayed game 6 before it was even time to start. CBS screwed up, there was no reason for them to pull new episodes of great shows because of the stupid world series. I guarantee csi ny and blue bloods would have beaten the game in ratings.

    • Miranda

If you like A Gifted Man or Blue Bloods you should be happy that CBS is doing this. They are trying to protect them from serious ratings hits.

      • lisa g.

        Smart.

      • lisa g.

Smart but since they’ve already premiered, does the hit really matter?

      • Charles

I have no issue with CBS or any channel from deciding what to air, but a statment that these changes are happening will go over with viewers better than just changing the schedule on whim and not tell anyone.

  • Carol

I love ” A Gifted Man”. The show is good and pulls you in.

    • Twink

He pulled me in and kept screaming for more.

  • John

A Gifted Man is a great show. Maybe the critics are snarky because there is no senseless violence and gimmicky narrative structures. It’s a good show. Leave it alone!

  • Michelle

GRRRR .. so we cowtow to the baseball fans? BS, I say. I can understand they want to “protect” the ratings but guess I still will watch Supernatural and Grimm.

    • Winnie

So many are acting as though pre-empting schedules for sporting events is not standard. I’m not always excited about shows starting late or new episodes being pushed back, but since I like that some sporting events are available for viewing for the masses (including those who opt out of having cable that includes extra sports/political/news channels) and occasionally enjoy such an event myself, I’m not going to cry foul or insult others when it’s done for a similar event I don’t care about. That’s when I’d either watch something else on my DVR/tv or turn it off altogether.

If you watch no sports on network television or cable networks that air original shows, I think there’s more credibility in taking issue than if you just don’t like the particular sport or matchup. But hey, it’s the comment section, so we’re all entitled to varying degrees of satisfaction/dissatisfaction.

    • elizabeth

This is the first Game 7 since 2002. I expect that even casual fans are dipping into it because it, by definition, will go into the books as more than just a WS winner. So it makes sense that CBS (which caters to the same demo as MLB) would want to protect ratings. It’s the biz. I’m sad to miss Fringe, but appreciate a deciding game in a good series between two excellent teams.

  • Raven

NBC will get murdered if they don’t move their shows,Chuck sucked long ago and poor Grimm lol..

    • Tiffany

Yeah, you would think that NBC would rethink this one.
