The CW inks five-year streaming deal with Hulu

CBS and Warner Bros. announced today that The CW and Hulu have struck a five-year licensing deal to allow the website to stream CW shows on Hulu and Hulu Plus. This encompasses network tentpoles 90210, America’s Next Top Model, Gossip Girl, Supernatural, and The Vampire Diaries, as well as Ringer, Hart of Dixie, The Secret Circle, and Nikita. Under the agreement, up to five in-season episodes will only be featured on Hulu Plus for eight days following the broadcast, at which point they will be available on the ad-supported free Hulu site. “The CW programming is a great example of the kind of in-season content we want to make available,” said Hulu’s SVP of Content Andy Forssell. “Making these shows available on Hulu and Hulu Plus will allow new and existing fans to get their fix of The CW’s great shows anytime and anywhere.”

That’s great and all but… It would have been better if CBS would have announced that it would allow actual CBS shows though.

ok, when will Ringer’s pilot be available?

You can watch the first six episodes of Ringer on the CW’s website right now. I think the newest episode gets posted the Sunday or Monday after it airs (the show airs on Tuesdays): so last Tuesday’s episode should be on the website on Sunday or Monday.

my pc won’t play the CW’s videos. it used to last season but now it won’t.

outside agitator… are you watching on Explorer or Firefox. I use to have trouble watching Supernatural on Firefox. I had to switch to Explorer. Might help

This is great news!!! I can live with the 8 day delay.

Finally! But I feel like this would be more awesome if they posted old seasons as well so viewers don’t have to spend an arm and a leg on itunes catching up or rewatching old episodes.

You can watch most CW old seasons on Netflix. That deal just took place a few weeks ago and has already started for most of the shows.

    Great I love Supernatural

This is fantastic news. The CW’s site is so hit or miss whether or not content shows up for me whereas I never have that problem with Hulu.

  • Lily

Awesome! Can’t wait to catch up on Ringer on a player that A) will play the entire episode and B) won’t make me sit through every. single. commercial. all.over. again. after the page is refreshed so I can finish the last 10 minutes.

I never understood the 8 day rule. I know Fox uses it a lot. If you prefer your viewers to watch live and not DVR or online, then why would you make the episode they missed available after the next episode airs? You have to wait for a break to catch up and watch live again. Granted some people don’t mind watching some shows out of order, but I still it doesn’t make sense to me

So glad, the CW’s site is just so ad-plaqued, takes an hour to play an episode. Plus, they keep putting the EXACT SAME promo for “Hart of Dixie” or “Vamprie Diaries” in a row in each break, annoying as hell.

    • Doc755

Imagine my disdain last year when I had to watch 20+ Hellcats promos for 1 episode of Nikita

  • MWeyer

Any word on when this takes hold and we can watch Ringer, Diaries or the rest on Hulu?

  • Sidney

Thank goodness. I had to abandon all the CW shows because of the awful video player they have on their website.

  • Jose

Thank God! Hulu is so much better than The CW website.

Any word when CBS will do the same?

  • Craig

Great. Now if only CBS would join the Hulu party

  • Anne

It’s about d*mn time! I stopped watching their live programming and bought the dvds because I couldn’t stand the player on the website.
