Boo! American Horror Story will return for a second season.
This is one of the fastest pickups in the history of the network, which tends to wait until at least the fifth episode airs before renewing a show. But given the show’s ratings and, just as important, the rating growth the past couple weeks, and — hey, it’s also freakin’ Halloween — this was an easy decision.
By announcing today, FX is also able to promote its four-episode Halloween marathon of the show that begins tonight — so those how haven’t seen AHS can get caught up.
“It’s one thing to have the ambition and guts to reinvent a genre in a way that makes it captivatingly fresh for a broad audience — it’s something else entirely to have the craft to back that ambition up,” said FX president John Landgraf. “Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have hit the trifecta with Nip/Tuck, Glee and now American Horror Story, which will be scaring FX’s viewers to death for many years to come.”
Including DVR playback, AHS is averaging 4.2 million viewers per episode, including a strong 2.9 million in the adult demo. That’s nearly the highest-rated first year series ever for the network. The second season, like the first, will have 13 episodes.

Wouldnt sunny getting renewed for seasons 8 and 9 before the premiere of season 7 be faster than this?
No. 4 episodes and a promised second season. 6 seasons and a promised 7 8 and 9. It was on for 6 seasons! I love American horror can’t wait for the next episode, let alone a new season.
This isn’t worth a second season yet. It’s really not that great. Geez.. can you guys come up with something more scary though?
Best new show of the season! I knew it would be renewed. I still suspect that the live inhabitants of this season will become dead inhabitants next season, scaring the next unlucky family to move in. Cant wait to see Vivians baby!
They seem to be on the track of exhausting all of the mysteries by season’s end. A second season would do well to just start over with a brand new setting and set of characters.
The horrendous acting on this show scared the crap out of me.
Your lack of taste scares the crap out of me!
You obviously have no taste
EW fix the comment section!! Why can’t comments from our phones appear on the same page as those made from a computer?? Its annoying ugh..
Hmm…. With Murphy already saying a new family will be featured in season 2 perhaps he won’t drop the ball like he usually does. Looks like at the end of the day, the house always win.
Wait. What?
I second that – wait, what?!?
I hope the Harmons have an ending-this part needs to wrap up. Hopefully they will sell the house to some unsuspecting family and move on to better things
Gave up watching after the 3rd episode
Too bad for you the millions of others watching didn’t!
I dont feel bad at all i hated the show but i appreciate the sympathy
Scaring audiences to death? Thats a good 1 this show wasnt scary in the least
Meant to say viewers
Did you watch the twins episode? That thing in the basement didn’t scare you at all?
Then why are you even reading this & commenting?
fbdbpw… you obviously still have interest if you’re reading this and commenting. Too bad you stopped after the third episode. The two-part Halloween shows were great.
Actually, it was the third episode that improved my view of the show. The first two really didn’t make me want to stick with it beyond October, but that 3rd episode was an improvement and last week’s episode 4 was also doing better at keeping my interest and attention. Because it was the first of a 2-parter, I’ll watch this week and then probably DVR the remaining eps of the season.
If you don’t like it, why are you reading about it? smh.
Of course you don’t care for this show dude, you like reality shows and redundant, mundane concepts that you can wrap your mind around. This show is too out of the box for people like you. Its ok pal, the majority of us know your kind-its cool lol!
Best show of this tv season. Jessica Lange is excellent. I’ve been a fan of hers since the movie Tootsie.
Since her debut in King Kong.
I’m sorry to say I haven’t seen Jessica Lange in anything (unless I’m forgetting something), but I agree, she’s excellent. Definitely deserves an Emmy.
Jessica Lange has been around for a long time. She is an outstanding actress and beautiful woman!!! I’m glad the younger generation is getting to know her. I love love love her. IMDB her, you might be surprised!!
@Seriously sorry but i dont scare easily and just to be clear i did watch the episodes at night
Excellent news! All the actors are great, but the “House” is the real star. Best show Ive seen in a long time.
Well done, FX. It’s nice to see with the success of AHS and The Walking Dead that networks are realizing horror can and will be embraced if done right.
Awesome! Such a creepy show and different than a lot of what’s on right now.
For all who aren’t ‘scared enough’ by this show; The name is deceiving, Yes. It is not true horror. It is more of ‘keep you guessing mystery’. I don’t like ‘horror’, but love this show. It is well written, with lots of twists and turns. If you don’t watch from the beginning, you won’t be able to follow the story.
This is the best thing that came to television since “Nip
Tuck”!! I am hooked! The acting is incredible for todays
standards, and the writing is fantastic! I laugh out loud,
and sit on the edge of my seat waiting for the next scene! THANK YOU for finally putting something on
television that isnt a “cops a robbers” show! Keep up the great work!!!
People who are commenting about this show not being “scary” enough aren’t looking at the bigger picture. There are so many different branches of horror and most programs in this genre can also be classified as a thriller. So, yes, AHS can be put into the horror category as well as a psychological thriller and a mystery (these three can sometimes go hand and hand). Plus, it has an AWESOME story line which is WAY more important when watching a series than the whole 5 second immediate scare or the unnecessary bloody and gory for no reason. Also remember, this is a TV show, so it can’t be too raw. So far, I think that this is one of the best TV horror shows I’ve seen in a LONG time. If we true horror fans keep supporting the effort of producers making stuff for us then more shows like this will surface. I hope to see many more seasons of AHS!!!
Well said, i have never seen a show like this before LOVE IT! Can’t wait for season 2 and im so glad to see Jessica Lange again still as beautiful and talented as ever.
I am addicted to this show, keep it coming
