'Revenge' scoop: An 'Other' from 'Lost' to star -- EXCLUSIVE

Hiroyuki-Sanada

An Other is coming to the Hamptons.

EW has learned exclusively that Hiroyuki Sanada — best known for playing Dogen, a member of the Others on Lost — will recur on ABC’s Revenge this season.

Sanada will play Kioshi Takeda, a Japanese business man with mysterious ties to Emily Thorne (Emily Van Camp). He’ll show up in episode 9.

On Lost, Sanada’s character preferred to communicate in Japanese so he required a translator. He was the only one who could keep the Man in Black out of the Temple, but then Sayid drowned him to death, so Titus Welliver’s alter-ego came in as a pillar of smoke and massacred the Others and … but, hey, look at us digressing!

Last week, ABC ordered nine more episodes of Revenge, which brought its total order to 22 for this first season. The show averaged 7.9 million viewers and a 2.7 rating in the adult demographic on Wednesday, just barely edging out CSI to win the 10 p.m. hour.

Despite little promotion, The X Factor snagged a surprise berth on Sunday and ended up clobbering the entertainment competition, which routinely takes a hit from football on NBC.

Naturally, the Peacock dominated on Sunday because of the gridiron action; the Vikings versus the Bears earned a 5.7 rating/13 share among adults 18-49, according to early results. But The X Factor was the night’s most popular entertainment program in the demo, earning a 3.3/8 and 8.6 million viewers. That’s down 11% from Thursday’s competition but hey, you didn’t know it was on. It wasn’t confirmed to air until after Saturday’s ALCS playoffs game was over. READ FULL STORY »

'New Girl' casting: Zooey Deschanel's lesbian gynecologist

Categories: New Girl, Television

This set-up sounds like it has comic potential: Fox’s New Girl has just cast comic actress June Diane Raphael as a friend of Zooey Deschanel’s Jess.

Raphael plays a Sadie, a “smart, slightly intimidating but helpful friend, she’s an OB/GYN doctor … who’s also a lesbian.” Sadie offers Nick (Jake Johnson) an unofficial diagnosis to a “health problem.” Raphael is a guest star in the ninth episode, with the potential to become a recurring performer.

Raphael has appeared on Adult Swim’s NTSF:SD:SUV, Funny or Die and Starz’ Party Down. As everybody knows at this point, New Girl is off Fox’s grid until Nov. 1.

Porn hackers infiltrate 'Sesame Street' YouTube page

Categories: Television

For a brief period on Sunday, Sesame Street‘s YouTube page became no place for children. According to CNN, the show page for the popular kids’ series was overrun by porn hackers who reprogrammed the site with X-rated videos.

The page was immediately taken down — the site instead told users it was briefly offline “due to repeated or severe violations of our community guidelines” — and Sesame Workshop released an apology quickly after the incident. “Our channel was compromised and we are presently working with YouTube/Google to restore our original content,” Sesame Workshop said in a statement. “We always strive to provide age-appropriate content for our viewers and hope to resolve this problem quickly.” (YouTube also addressed the incident to CNN: “YouTube’s Community Guidelines prohibit graphic content … As always, we remove inappropriate material as soon as we are made aware of it.”

Though it’s not known who is responsible for the hacking yet, a message on the site claimed two users were responsible. One, named “MrEdxwx” denied the claim on his page: “I did not hack Sesame Street. I am an honest YouTuber … I work hard to make quality gameplay videos, and most important I respect the community guidelines.”

Last night’s special, 90-minute episode of the Walking Dead got the second season of AMC’s zombie show off with a bang. Specifically, the show ended with one as Carl (Chandler Riggs) was gunned down. The moment was shocking — if not a huge surprise for fans of the Walking Dead comic, in which Rick’s son has demonstrated a magnetic attraction for bullets over the years.

Last week on Desperate Housewives, Mike found himself pulled into the so-far season-long story arc about the wives’ murder cover-up. And while this is going to bring a lot more trouble for Mike in the coming episodes, James Denton couldn’t be happier about Mike’s sudden involvement.

“Mike hasn’t had a lot to do in the last couple of years,” Denton says. “It’s fun to be in the middle of the mystery again. That’s what’s been most rewarding.” READ FULL STORY »

'Walking Dead' cast and crew talk about the new season (VIDEO)

Categories: The Walking Dead

As part of EW’s ongoing effort to ensure that you know absolutely everything there is to possible know about the new season of The Walking Dead — which debuts tonight, have you heard? — we swung by this weekend’s New York Comic-Con to talk to the cast and crew behind the brain-smashing TV series. We learned about some of the difficulties of shooting the new season. (Who knew that shutting down a stretch of the Atlanta highway would be so difficult?) New cast member Lauren Cohan also gave us the down-low on the post-apocalyptic dating scene. We put it all on video, the better to communicate these valuable lessons to our illiterate post-apocalyptic descendants. Check it out! (Warning: Mild, non-fatality plot spoilers for those who haven’t read the series.) READ FULL STORY »

'The Walking Dead' at New York Comic-con: Full report of the panel

Categories: The Walking Dead
walking-dead-season-2

The unofficial Walking Dead takeover of EW.com continues! Yesterday, members of the Dead cast and crew (including creator Robert Kirkman) swung by the New York Comic-Con for a capacity-crowd panel. Everyone was pretty mum, spoiler-wise, although Kirkman explicitly stated his wish to get one fan-favorite character from the comic books into the show. (Conspiracy theorists will be sad, or perhaps happy, to hear that there was nary a mention of departed Dead showrunner Frank Darabont.) The panel was moderated by Chris Hardwick, host of the spin-off talk show The Talking Dead. Read on for a full report, and be sure to check back tonight for my full Walking Dead episode recap:

–Executive producer Gale Anne Hurd kicked off the event with a piece of information that was like an arrow straight into geek hearts everywhere, describing Kirkman’s expanded involvement in the show’s second season. She explained, “We lured Robert from Kentucky to the wilds of Los Angeles, so he can participate in the writers’ room every day.” READ FULL STORY »
