Food Network's 'The Next Iron Chef: Super Chefs': It's judgment day -- VIDEO

Categories: Reality TV, Television

Subtlety isn’t on the menu on the Food Network’s The Next Iron Chef: Super Chefs. Between the gigantic automated doors, the ominous lighting, and Alton Brown’s disappointment-tinged voice, it’s a miracle the contestants don’t drop their knives and run the heck out of the highly intimidating judging room. But I suppose you need guts to be an Iron Chef — and it would probably also be helpful if you knew how to use those guts as a secret ingredient, if needed.

In this exclusive clip of the Oct. 30 premiere episode, take a peek at the contestants as they prepare to face the judge panel, which includes host Brown, returning judges Michael Symon and Simon Majumdar, and newbie judge, Judy Joo. Who looks like a winner, readers? READ FULL STORY »

Game 6 attacks Thursday: 'Community,' 'Parks,' 'Office' hit lows

At least Prime Suspect has an excuse this week.

Fox’s coverage of Game 6 of the World Series crushed most of the competition Thursday night, hitting NBC’s lineup particularly hard. Game 6 delivered an overnight household rating of 13.8 — the highest yet for this championship. Once again, female-skewing ABC not only didn’t drop, but managed a slight gain; plus there was good news for The CW’s Vampire Diaries.

CBS came in second with Big Bang Theory (14.3 million, 4.5), down 12 percent, and Rules of Engagement (10.8 million, 3.4), off 6 percent. Person of Interest (11.5 million, 2.6) only lost a tenth and The Mentalist (12.2 million, 2.5) was steady.

ABC’s annual repeat of It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (7.4 million, 2.3) doubled the performance of the last weeks of Charlie’s Angels in the spot. Then Grey’s Anatomy (9.8 million, 3.7) and Private Practice (6.6 million, 2.4) were up slightly.

NBC, however, was hit hard: READ FULL STORY »

CBS pulls Friday dramas due to World Series

Categories:

CBS is outta here. With the World Series going into a seventh game tonight, CBS is pulling its original episodes of CSI: NY, Blue Bloods and — brace yourself — A Gifted Man. Repeats will air instead — the Gifted Man pilot, then encores of CSI: NY and CSI: Miami (no Blue Bloods).

This helps NBC (a little) with its plan to move forward with the season premiere episodes of Chuck and Grimm. Why is CBS changing and NBC staying the same? It’s easier to make this switch with shows that have been on for awhile rather than heavily promoted premieres.

Go Rangers!

Just kidding. Last night was actually the most baseball I’ve watched since the last time I watched a repeat of A League of Their Own on TBS, so don’t take that declaration too seriously. I don’t care who wins — either way, we don’t get Fringe tonight. Pfft.

That said, I have some scoop today that will hopefully satisfy your need for one more week — or make the delay even more painful. I can’t decide which is more truthful, but let’s try to see the sunny side of things.

In other news, enjoy spoils and teases from a ton of other shows below! If you don’t see a show you like, send me an e-mail with your request: spoilerroom@ew.com. (I read and appreciate them all!) Twitter also works: @EWSandraG. I also try to comb comments, but I sometimes miss those. To make sure they reach my eyes, use the two previously mentioned methods. Don’t be shy!

See y’all next week!

‘FRINGE’: WHAT YOU WON’T SEE TONIGHT
As great as last night’s Game 6 was, it was hard to ignore the collective sigh among Fringe fans on news that Game 7 would result in a one-week delay of the new Fringe episode. And I’m right there with you — that sucks. Luckily, before I even knew the outcome of the game, I’d planned a healthy serving of dish for you. READ FULL STORY »

'Community' pays tribute to 'Animal House' for EW's Comedy Issue -- EXCLUSIVE PHOTO

We here at EW were looking for a way to salute some classic school-set comedies from the late 70s and 80s for our Comedy Issue, which hits stands today. We could have done it with conventional weapons, but that would have taken years and cost millions of lives. We had to all go out, as this situation absolutely required a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody’s part. The good news? We knew just the guys to do it: The students at Greendale Community College! The nine stars of the clever and refer-ential NBC comedy Community recreated some famous imagery from Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Porky’s, and The Breakfast Club (which you can see in the magazine), as well as Animal House – which you can check out below in this online exclusive: READ FULL STORY »

Game 7 bumps 'Fringe,' threatens 'Chuck,' 'Grimm'

You know that scene in The Perfect Storm when the meteorologist is looking at his monitor showing all the patterns coming together and is awestruck how the storm systems are combining just right to cause a giant wave to drown George Clooney?

NBC is George Clooney.

Rain postponed Game 6 of the World Series to Thursday night, and now the Cardinals just beat the Rangers and have forced a Game 7 — on Friday night. That means Fox will bump Fringe (and, hey, how about a little love for poor Kitchen Nightmares too? … No?). More crucially, in this case, it means the final season premiere of Chuck and — very most crucially for NBC — the series debut of new supernatural drama Grimm, are scheduled to air up against the deciding game of the World Series. 5 reasons FX bought Charlie Sheen's sitcom

Why did FX order potentially 100 episodes of a sitcom starring an actor who disastrously flamed out in a media explosion of drugs, hookers, quasi-intelligible rants and legal action just six months ago?

As you know, FX just committed to 10 episodes of Sheen’s Anger Management, a sitcom loosely based on the 2003 film of the same title. If that first batch of episodes earn a certain rating, FX is obligated to buy 90 more. (It’s a go-big-or-go-home style of production deal pioneered by Tyler Perry with TBS comedies like Meet the Browns and House of Payne.) Quipped Time‘s James Poniewozik on Twitter: “I’d advise taping them all in like a week, just to be safe.”

Here’s why FX made a deal with the warlock: READ FULL STORY »

'American Horror Story' ratings grow AGAIN

Don’t look now, but FX’s American Horror Story is growing into a hit.

Ryan Murphy’s latest (and last week’s Entertainment Weekly cover story) rose in the ratings for the second time in row. AHS went up 15 percent to 3 million viewers — after going up a slight 4 percent the week before. In the adult demo, the show did even better, hitting a series high 2.2 million viewers.

The fourth episode of the horror-drama admittedly had more than a fair amount of help from its lead-in, the basic cable premiere of Twilight. Still … climbing two weeks in a row for any serialized drama is a healthy sign.

FX buys Charlie Sheen comedy 'Anger Management'

Charlie Sheen has found his next home. FX announced today that it has acquired Anger Management, a sitcom loosely based on the 2003 movie of the same name from Joe Roth’s Revolution Studios. The home of Sons of Anarchy and American Horror Story has ordered 10 episodes of the comedy from the Lionsgate-owned Debmar-Mercury, and will be written and executive produced by veteran comedy writer Bruce Helford (The Drew Carey Show).

The show will premiere next summer. READ FULL STORY »

Live reader Q&A with 'Vampire Diaries' star Candice Accola tonight at 7 p.m. ET!

Candice-Accola

Join EW.com tonight for a live chat with Vampire Diaries star Candice Accola, who will take your questions from 7 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. ET. Her character, vampire Caroline, was last seen slinking away after having sex with hybrid boyfriend Tyler (Michael Trevino) because he hadn’t earned the overnight stay yet — also, because the writers needed “Barbie Klaus” Rebekah to bring the famished, chenille-blanket-clothed Tyler a living snack. So what is in store for what’s still, sadly, the healthiest relationship on this show at the moment? Can’t Caroline and Rebekah take a timeout from hating each other long enough for a Clueless shopping spree? What is Caroline planning for Homecoming in the Nov. 10 midseason finale? (We assume she’s head of the decorating committee, as usual.) Ask away at 7 p.m. ET! Then remember to watch the new episode of The Vampire Diaries at 8 p.m. with other fans and our viEWer.

Taiwanese animators explain NBC ratings woes by executing Playboy bunny -- VIDEO

Categories: Ratings, TV Biz

The annual NBC media pile-on has begun in earnest this week, as the perpetual fourth-place network sunk 17 percent below its performance last fall. NBC is averaging a 2.5 in the adult demo (and that’s aided by Sunday Night Football), compared to ABC’s 2.7 (down 7 percent), CBS’ 3.3 (down 8 percent) and Fox’s 3.4 (up 17 percent) and The CW’s 0.9 (down 31 percent). We could run down the new fall shows that didn’t work, the struggling returning shows, the hopes for midseason turn-around, blah blah blah. But I’d really rather just show you NMA’s Taiwanese animation take on NBC’s fall performance:  READ FULL STORY »
