Jeff Probst on episode 7 of 'Survivor: South Pacific'

Each week, host Jeff Probst answers a few questions about the most recent episode of Survivor: South Pacific.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Okay, Jeff. You’re on the Savaii tribe and Ozzy presents his plan to get voted out on purpose and go to Redemption Island. Yet you can’t be sure the merge is next, can’t be sure Ozzy will win the duel, and also know that the person he’s going against in Christine was voted out first on her tribe so there’s a pretty good chance you don’t even need to beat her because she may not even want to go back to Upolu. What do you do: go along with the plan or argue to cut Cochran loose instead?
JEFF PROBST: I go with the odds that the merge is coming, knowing that if Ozzy doesn’t make it back, we have Christine as a back up. It takes a big move and this is a great time and a great idea if executed properly. If I’m Cochran, I might also pray Ozzy loses and I get to keep the idol.  Finally, if I’m a fan of the show, I pull Ozzy aside and give him some basic acting lessons starting with: ”Less is more.” READ FULL STORY »

Amid all the crazy pomp and breathless circumstance pounding out of last night’s first live episode of The X Factor, it can be a bit easy to forget that the show does boast an impressive roster of talent. EW caught up with the show’s Top 12 contestants as they spoke with press after the show, and asked them about how much they collaborate with their respective mentors, what songs they’re most keen to sing in the weeks ahead, and how their lives have most changed from their first audition to now. Some of their answers may surprise you:

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: How much involvement have you had in your song choices and overall performance on the show?

ASTRO: I think I was very involved with it. Me and L.A., we decided the song. L.A. watched me rehearse the performance. He thought it was great. [X Factor choreographer] Brian [Friedman] told me where to move at certain spots. My step-pops helped me a lot. But I think I was very involved in the whole performance. I told them, you know, I don’t want too much dancing going on.

CHRIS RENE: I get a fair amount of input into the song. We throw ideas back and forth, and see what sticks, what emotions we’re trying to get over here. Tonight was a sad emotion. It was losing love, and a lot of people have been through that. As far as my performance, it felt like a good time, but I thought I could’ve done a little more, you know? READ FULL STORY »

'Rescue Me' actress nabs 'Ringer' troublemaker role

Categories: Casting, Rescue Me, Ringer

A Rescue Me veteran is stepping into The CW’s Ringer as a trouble-making step mom.

Andrea Roth has been cast in the recurring role of Catherine — that’s the ex wife of  Siobhan’s husband Andrew Martin and the mother of Juliet. She’s described as “beautiful, sexy and intimidating … smart, conniving and can be very vindictive.”

Catherine comes to New York and “causes turmoil for the Martin family” (which, naturally includes our heroine SMG). In addition to appearing in 93 episodes of FX’s Rescue Me, Roth also had a recurring role on CBS’ Blue Bloods.

'How I Met Your Mother': Ted's awkward cuddle time with the Slutty Pumpkin (Katie Holmes!) -- VIDEO

Having been the victim of awkward cuddle time on several occasions, I couldn’t help but lose it during this clip of Ted and the Slutty Pumpkin (guest star Katie Holmes).

In these clips from the episode airing Oct. 31, we learn that not only does Naomi (Madam Pumpkin’s real name) totally remember Ted from all those years ago, but she thinks they’re meant to be! Too bad the feeling is not reciprocated. In fact, he’s not feeling it at all!

On an unrelated note, is Robin trying to convince Barney he’s Canadian? The horror!*

'The X Factor': Simon Cowell on 'my big mouth,' and all four judges on their on-screen bickering

XJudges

After last night’s colossal two-and-a-half-hour live episode of The X Factor, judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger, and L.A. Reid took time out to speak with press on the X Factor stage. (Thankfully, there were no backup dancers.) EW also took time to talk with Simon about how he feels the show is doing so far this season, and what it’s like to be both a judge and the Man In Charge. On the second page, all four judges weigh in on their tough eliminations, their biggest competition, and what their take is on all the “squabbling” happening between them on air. (Paula spoke with EW at the end of the night, and so our interview was cut a bit short.)

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: How do you feel the show’s been doing? You talked a big game as the show was beginning about wanting an audience number that the show hasn’t been able to reach yet.
SIMON COWELL: I mean, I opened my big mouth, basically, as usual, but I don’t regret it. What I was feeling at the time was, and I still feel it now, you want a show that’s going to go over 20 million. And you do everything you can to do it. In the real world, I’ve seen where all the other shows have done, where we’ve done — I’m feeling good about it. I’m feeling momentum. I know when it goes the other way, and that’s not a nice place to be.  READ FULL STORY »

Game 6? Yer out!

The rain gods continue to wreck havoc with Fox’s fall schedule. Major League Baseball officials just decided to postpone Wednesday night’s World Series game due to rainy weather in St. Louis. The Cards and Rangers will just have to find some other way to occupy their time tonight.

Fox will air Glee encores (episodes “The Rocky Horror Glee Show” and “Silly Love Songs”) tonight instead (which ought to be a delightful surprise for unsuspecting sports fans tuning in). Game 6 will now air on Thursday instead of Game 7. And if there needs to be a Game 7?

Friday… oh, that would be interesting. Fringe bumped. NBC’s Chuck and Grimm premiering up against the World Series (gulp). With Texas leading 3-2, NBC better start cheering for the Rangers.

Categories: Glee, Television

Looks like another familiar face may be headed back to Glee: Executive producer Ryan Murphy just declared at a press event celebrating the taping of the show’s 300th song that Jonathan Groff will reprise his role as Jesse St. James.

Groff played the male lead of rival glee club, Vocal Adrenaline, for 10 previous episodes, and was Lea Michele’s love interest. Now, however, he’s going to be the group’s new vocal coach. First Chord Overstreet, now Groff…

If you live in Los Angeles and it seems gusty outside, that’s because all over town Fox executives and X Factor producers are breathing a massive sigh of relief.

The first live show surged in the ratings. That’s exactly what everybody associated with this competition series had hoped for, especially after the numbers slipped recently in the shadow of baseball coverage disrupting Fox’s schedule. In fact, X Factor‘s performance show delivered its highest rating since its premiere — 11.4 million viewers and a 4.3 among adults 18-49. That’s up 10 percent from last week, and Factor will probably tie its series premiere when the national ratings are released later today.

The question is: Will Simon Cowell’s grand primetime venture gather more viewers as it continues toward its first season finale? Or was the spike for last night’s event — which pared down the contestants from 17 acts to 12 finalists — a one-time thing? READ FULL STORY »
