'X Factor' to allow voting by Twitter

Categories: Reality TV, The X Factor

The X Factor will become the first-ever TV series to allow voting by Twitter.

The network and producers announced a partnership Tuesday night with the social media company to give fans the ability to a vote for their favorite finalists. The partnership begins next week after the live performance show on Nov. 2.

If you’re thinking that Tweeting votes seems potentially chaotic, here’s the fine print: You’re not voting with Tweets, but by using your account’s direct message feature. X Factor will also allow voting through the usual suspects — online via the show’s Web site, text messaging and, yup, dialing the darn phone. More details on signing up to vote by Twitter here. As part of the partnership, Factor producers are also threatening this: READ FULL STORY »

UPDATED: Beavis and Butt-Head will make a surprise appearance on tonight’s Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote their return to MTV (video added below). The duo will crash Jimmy’s interview with Snooki and apparently try to host the ABC late-night talk show themselves … but, of course, are animated so I’m unsure how that works exactly. 'The Dark Tower' going to HBO?

Categories: Television

HBO isn’t commenting and we have some doubts, but mega-producer Brian Grazer claims Stephen King’s Dark Tower saga will air on the premium network.

In an interview with MTV, Grazer — who’s seeking to produce the miniseries along with Ron Howard as both a movie and companion TV series — said, “We’re going to do ['The Dark Tower'] with HBO. We’ll do the TV with HBO, and we’ll do the movie with … to be determined. We’ll do it right.” READ FULL STORY »

MTV cancels 'The Buried Life' -- EXCLUSIVE

MTV’s anti-Jersey Shore is no more.

The network has pulled the plug on its inspirational reality effort The Buried Life after two modestly rated seasons, yet hopes to continue working with the team in another format. The show followed a quartet of friends who went around the country helping strangers accomplish their dreams while crossing off ambitious and whimsical items from their own personal bucket list (like streaking a stadium, giving a toast at a stranger’s wedding, etc).

So what about that list of 100 things they wanted to do before they died? Sources say the group has maintained a close relationship with MTV and have been working with the network on ways to either extend the show online or develop new digital or TV concepts. But Buried Life will not continue as an on-air series. Fist pumping > Altruism = Bummer.

Len Goodman on 'Dancing With the Stars' feud with Maks: 'You can't be a judge at your own trial' -- VIDEO

Dancing With the Stars head judge Len Goodman has taken to Access Hollywood to address longtime professional dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy’s claim on Monday night that the celebrities on DWTS are judged on their “so-called potential” instead of the performance of the night.

“How often, in the heat of the moment, we say things where we think why did I say that? I think Maks is going through one of those period right now,” Goodman said.

“What they have to understand is: They’re on trial. We’re the judges,” Goodman clarified. “You can’t be the judge at your own trial.”

On Monday night, after Len called Hope Solo’s rumba her worst dance of the season, he said Maks was to blame for half of that and reminded the pro that he’s been in this business for 50 years. “Maybe it’s time to get out,” Maks shot back.

There are questionable full-season pickups and then, there are the no-brainers. This one is the latter: CBS has picked up the back nine episodes of Person of Interest, the network’s latest procedural that stars Michael Emerson and Jim Caviezel.

The drama about a former CIA agent and mysterious billionaire who attempt to prevent violent crimes has averaged a 3.0 rating/10 share in adults 18-49 and 14 million viewers. READ FULL STORY »

AMC renews 'The Walking Dead' for third season

Zombies rule: AMC has just renewed The Walking Dead for a third season.

The decision comes after only two episodes have aired of season two, but it’s still no surprise — the show’s premiere had more adults 18-49 than any other drama in basic cable history. (And for once, AMC has managed to renew a show without a protracted hand-wringing negotiation!).

Ratings for Sunday’s second episode: 6.7 million total viewers, 4.5 million adults 18-49. Including repeats, the full count climbs to 8.8 million viewers. That’s down 8 percent from the premiere (and down 20 percent if you include the repeats), but hell, at these levels TWD can still give viewers away like Halloween candy.
