Official: Chord Overstreet returning to 'Glee' (and sooner than you think)

Yes, he’s back: Chord Overstreet has inked a deal with Fox to return to Glee.

The actor has signed up for a multi-episode/recurring arc on the show, and is back on the air sooner than you might think. Sam Evans is set to reunite with the glee club in December. The move might help boost the show’s ratings — Glee has seen its numbers slip since returning this fall.

Sam’s departure was explained in the season 3 premiere by his father getting a job in another town. But as Tim Stack pointed out last week, the big question is what this will mean for Amber Riley’s Mercedes, who began dating Sam in the season 2 finale but now has a new boyfriend. Here’s some pre-packaged quotes: READ FULL STORY »

'The Sing-Off': Tonight's hip-hop set list -- EXCLUSIVE

Lewis Jacob/NBC

On tonight’s episode of The Sing-Off, the top 8 vocal groups perform hip-hop hits from the past or present. The big twist of this week’s installment is that at the end of the show, the three judges — Ben Folds, Sara Bareilles, and Shawn Stockman — choose the bottom two acts, who then perform the same tune back-to-back. After that “sing-off,” one group is eliminated. Here’s what you can expect to hear on NBC beginning at 8/7 central:

Opening number: “Nothin’ On You,” B.o.B. & Bruno Mars

Dartmouth Aires: “Club Can’t Handle Me,” Flo Rida
Afro-Blue: “Killing Me Softly With His Song,” Fugees
The Collective: “Give Me Everything,” Pitbull
Vocal Point: “I’ll Be Missing You,” Puff Daddy
Urban Method: “Airplanes,” B.o.B. featuring Hayley Williams
Pentatonix: “Love Lockdown,” Kanye West
Delilah: “How to Love,” Lil Wayne
Yellowjackets: “The Show Goes On,” Lupe Fiasco

Sing-Off Song: “Just A Dream,” Nelly

'Walking Dead' writer Robert Kirkman talks last night's episode: 'Bloodletting'

“Bloodletting” is a title you could give to pretty much any episode of AMC’s gore-drenched, zombie-filled Walking Dead. But it was a particularly apt one for Sunday night’s show, which found the stricken Carl (Chandler Riggs) being given transfusions of the red stuff from his father Rick (Andrew Lincoln) following the young ‘un’s shooting at the end of the season premiere. Said transfusions took place on a farm belonging to new character Hershel (Scott Wilson), a venue that seems likely to be the characters’ base for the next few episodes (at least those who can get there alive. IronE Singleton’s T-Dog was looking rather peaky by end of the show and heaven knows what’s happened to Madison Lintz’s Sophia).

Below, Robert Kirkman — who pens the Walking Dead comic and is one of the show’s writers — talks about the episode, why Shane (Jon Bernthal) is “a good guy,” and his enthusiasm for the idea of a Walking Dead breakfast cereal. READ FULL STORY »

'Days of Our Lives' shakeup: Co-Exec Producer out

More changes on the NBC daytime serial Days of Our Lives — but this time, it’s behind the camera. EW has confirmed that Co-Executive Producer Noel Maxam is out and former Passions Executive Producer Lisa De Cazotte will take over, instead.

Maxam only joined the show in June along with Greg Meng, who will stay on board as co-executive producer. Soap Opera Network first reported the news.

Maxam and Meng were brought on to “reset” the daytime drama to include “more contemporary stories based on the solid foundation of the Days history of family, romance, and drama.” Translation: They’re trying to keep Days as relevant as possible to ensure that soaps continue to have a place in daytime for as long as possible.

Several high-profile changes have been made on the soap. Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn are back, as are Patrick Muldoon and Christie Clark. In the meantime, the producers have increased the size of the sets by adding the new Horton Town Square.

Official: Aisha Tyler added as co-host on 'The Talk'

Categories: Deals

The Talk will have something fresh to address on Monday — a new co-host. The CBS daytime talk show has officially added Aisha Tyler, the actress best known for gigs on Ghost Whisperer and Friends, to the panel alongside Sara Gilbert, Julie Chen, Sharon Osbourne and Sheryl Underwood.

Tyler previously guest-hosted on the daytime show that celebrates its one-year anniversary this month. She’ll debut Monday, according to Deadline.

In 2009, Tyler shot an eponymous talk show pilot for ABC that was described as a cross between daytime and late-night talk shows. The hope was to take the actress’ show to syndication. She also co-hosted on The View as well as Entertainment Tonight.

Meanwhile, Tyler continues to lend her voice to FX’s animated series Archer as Lana.

As part of an attempt to revamp the year-old show, CBS has rotated in a number of gals to help fill the void left by Leah Remini and Holly Robinson Peete, whose contracts were not renewed. Kris Jenner did a stint, as did Molly Shannon.

Steve Jobs planned revolutionary TV sets

Categories:

Steve Jobs wanted to create a fully integrated line of Apple TV sets with “the simplest user interface you can imagine.”

According to a report in The Washington Post reviewing Walter Isaacson’s new biography of the Apple co-founder, Jobs saw the company’s current Apple TV-branded set-top boxes as merely the starting point for conquering the home theater space.

Will CBS give 'Gifted Man' a full season?

Categories: TV Ratings

Friday ratings are here and once again, CBS’ new supernatural medical drama A Gifted Man is locked onto its usual modest number.

Gifted had 8.6 million viewers and its standard 1.2 adult demo rating, ranking as CBS’ lowest-rated Mon-Fri primetime show of the week. It’s lead-outs — CSI: NY (10.7 million, 1.8) and Blue Bloods (10.8 million, 1.7) — are stronger. We keep hearing CBS is on the verge of picking up Thursday’s Person of Interest and Tuesday’s Unforgettable for full seasons, while the rumor mill has been quiet on Gifted Man. CBS seems likely to air all 13 of the episodes, keeping the troublesome 8 p.m slot filled through the holidays. We would expect to at least hear about an order for more scripts next week if the show is going to continue beyond that. READ FULL STORY »

'Young and the Restless': Jeanne Cooper's on leave, so her stand-in is ... EXCLUSIVE

Young-Restless-Chancellor

Katherine Chancellor is going to look a little different in the coming weeks. EW has learned exclusively that Michael Learned — best known for her Emmy-winning role on The Waltons — will fill in for veteran actor Jeanne Cooper (Katherine) on a temporary basis.

Cooper needed time off for medical reasons — rest assured, she’s okay – but the producers needed to continue her storyline so Learned will pick up the slack until the veteran soap star can resume taping in November. Cooper, who turns 83 on Oct. 25, has played Katherine for 38 years. READ FULL STORY »

'90210': A pirate, a princess and a naked wiener. Best Halloween ever? -- EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOK

90210 knows how to do costumes. And while nothing might ever top Naomi’s Na’vi outfit (not worn for a Halloween episode, I might add), the costumes on the upcoming Halloween episode are pretty amazing. My favorite? Silver’s bun-less hot dog.

Holly’s Chiquita Banana garb (visible in the photo below) is also pretty festive, but I expected better from Ivy, whose “rocker” ensemble falls short. Also, Annie, a princess? Pfft. Typical. Kidding!

Olivia Wilde may have just made her exit from House on Monday’s episode, but if you were among the fans hoping for Thirteen to make a brief return in the future to close out her character’s relatively open-ended departure, you might be out of luck.

At the In Time premiere held last night at the Regency Village Theatre in Westwood, Calif., Wilde told EW that she didn’t foresee a return to the show — even if rumors that it could be the show’s last season prove to be true. READ FULL STORY »

'The Office': Catherine Tate to reprise role as Nellie

Whoa Nellie, look who is coming back to Dunder Mifflin! NBC announced today that Catherine Tate will return to The Office to reprise her role as Nellie Bertram. She’ll show up in the second half of the season after she’s hired by friend and Chairman Jo Bennett (Kathy Bates) as a “misguided special projects manager working directly for the corporate office who very much enjoys the favoritism received from Bennett.”

Tate first joined the NBC comedy in last season’s finale as one of the candidates interviewing for Michael Scott’s job.

“Catherine is hysterical,” said executive producer Paul Lieberstein in a statement. ”We introduced her briefly in last season’s finale and knew she had to be a part of the show somehow. We’ll meet her again as corporate’s special projects manager, and her relationship with Robert California (James Spader) will be far from professional. We’re thrilled that she’s joining the cast.”

Tate headlined her own eponymous show for the BBC.
