Brace yourself, Hollywood: Ricky Gervais will host the Golden Globes for the third time.

After months of will-he-or-won’t-he rumors, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and NBC have struck a deal with the caustic comedian to host the show on Jan. 15. Last year, Gervais mocked the HFPA and once again dealt low-blow punches to Hollywood celebrities. But Gervais also brings a certain high-wire-act tension to the telecast which has seemingly benefited the show’s ratings — Globes viewership rose to roughly 17 million viewers when Gervais first took the gig in 2010 and held mostly steady this year. And NBC, which has been rocked by lower primetime ratings this fall, can sure use the stability.

Gervais tweeted: “Just told [Oscar host] Billy Crystal he’d better not use any of my holocaust or pedophile material at The Oscars. He agreed (true).” READ FULL STORY »

As Criminal Minds fans will recall, one of the most revealing Garcia eps, “Penelope,” taught us a lot about the BAU’s most colorful member. But tonight’s powerful episode, “Hope” – finds Garcia helping the gang locate her missing friend (Brigid Brannagh) — will show us a different aspect of the character, according to Kirsten Vangsness.

“It’s not like ‘Penelope,’ where you learned facts about her,” she says. “Everything you find out from this episode, you learn in terms of her behavior — how she handles herself under stress and how she handles herself when she has to do something that’s not in her wheelhouse. That makes it interesting.” That’s not to say there aren’t some interesting revelations. READ FULL STORY »

'Glee,' 'Parenthood' dip to season low ratings

After rising in the ratings for its much-discussed deflowering episode last week, Fox’s Glee slipped to a season low Tuesday night.

Glee (7.1 million viewers, 2.9 adults 18-49 rating) fell a slight 6 percent, but Fox’s New Girl (6.9 million, 3.5) remained steady. Raising Hope (4.8 million, 2.2) was up a notch, though that might change since there was overrun from New Girl into its slot.

CBS was out in front with NCIS (19.9 million viewers, 4.0) and NCIS: LA (15 million, 3.3), both down just a tenth. A steady freshman underdog Unforgettable (11.2 million, 2.4) won 10 p.m. READ FULL STORY »

'Web Therapy': Lisa Kudrow talks upcoming guest spots (Rosie! Conan!), today's season 4 premiere. Plus, EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

The stories behind how Lisa Kudrow and her team at Web Therapy, which kicks off its fourth season today, scored their guest stars this season are almost as good as the storylines that bring them to the improvised online series. (Key word: Almost, but more on that in a bit.)

Take singer Natasha Bedingfield, for instance. Without a casting director, the duties fall to Kudrow, who also stars as (unlicensed) therapist Fiona Wallace, producing partner Dan Bucatinsky (The Comeback) and writer-director Don Roos (Happy Endings). So they’ve learned to keep their eyes open for opportunities at every corner — even if those corners are behind the scenes at the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. “There was a story we had wanted to do and I ran into her at the Tonight Show,” says Kudrow, who created the series for the web with Bucatinsky and Roos in 2008. “I said, ‘Do you act?’ and she was like, ‘Oh, yeah!’ And she was available.”

Bedingfield will appear later this season playing a British palace worker who seeks Wallace’s help. “Fiona ‘understands’ that she doesn’t really need therapy. She thinks she’s probably calling as a proxy to somebody else — and that’s thrilling to her. She thinks she’s calling for Kate and William,” Kudrow says. READ FULL STORY »

'Bridesmaids' comedienne to guest star on 'Hot in Cleveland' -- EXCLUSIVE

Wendi-McClendon-Covey

Cleveland is welcoming comedic actress Wendi McLendon-Covey to the fold: EW has confirmed that the Bridesmaids star will guest star in an upcoming episode of TV Land’s breakout comedy Hot in Cleveland, which stars Betty White as the cantankerous caretaker of a house in Cleveland where LA ladies Wendy Malick, Jane Leeves, and Valerie Bertinelli reside.

McLendon-Covey will shoot a spot as a nurse in an episode — set to air in January — that finds Melanie (Bertinelli) dating a kicker from the Cleveland Browns. The actress was memorable this past summer in Bridesmaids as Rita, the cynical bridesmaid cousin to Maya Rudolph’s Lillian.

The third season of Hot in Cleveland premieres on TV Land Nov. 30 at 10 p.m. Several other guest stars — including Sandra Bernhard and Kathie Lee Gifford — have already been announced for the upcoming season.

'Parenthood': Alexandra Daddario says her character will cause 'friction' between Adam and Kristina

Categories: Parenthood, Television

Sure, Alexandra Daddario’s Kate may have gotten blown up by a bomb on White Collar (and yes, we’re still not over it) but on Parenthood, it’s her turn to cause some (emotional) explosions, specifically between Adam (Peter Krause) and Kristina (Monica Potter).

Last week, we were introduced to Rachel (Daddario), Adam and Crosby’s scantily-clad new secretary and office assistant, who unknowingly caused ripples between Adam and Kristina. (Kristina, who has been dealing with post-pregnancy stresses and insecurities, was not too happy to meet her husband’s hot, young employee.) But tonight, as Daddario teases, things may get a little more intentional. “There was obviously a preview at the end of the [last] episode that implied that there’s going to be more problems between Kristina and Adam and more tension as a result of my character’s actions,” she tells EW. “I just think I cause a bit of friction and distraction.”  READ FULL STORY »

Fall 2011-12 rankings: What's a hit, what's a bomb

Ratings

Image Credit: Monty Brinton/CBS; Patrick Mcelhenney/Fox; Mike Yarish/Fox

UPDATED: Why is Whitney still on but Prime Suspect is about to wrap? How can Last Man Standing survive but How to Be a Gentleman can’t?

You’re about to get your answer.

Here is the season-to-date ranking for all the broadcast network shows through Week 8 of the 2011-12 season. Since advertisers (and the networks, whenever it suits them) salivate over adult viewers between the ages of 18-49, we’re listing which shows fared the best (and the worst) in the key demographic.

Note to anyone who ventures past No. 89: It gets pretty depressing from there so tread lightly, CW fans. (And a show that appears in red means it’s been canceled). READ FULL STORY »
