Good news for all those Jake-loving Secret Circle fans.

Chris Zylka, who plays hottie witch hunter Jake on the CW drama, has been promoted to a series regular, EW has learned exclusively.

Zylka first came on board the freshman series in October, and his character’s budding romance with Cassie (Britt Robertson) quickly struck a note with fans, many of whom found themselves torn. (Cassie also had an ongoing back-and-forth with Thomas Dekker’s Adam.) Zykla tells EW that even though he was originally slated to appear in 8 episodes, he always saw the potential in the character. “I thought [Jake] was the bad guy, but he had all these redeeming qualities that were under his tough skin,” he says.

But his role was also a bit daunting, he says. “I was most nervous about [debuting after the death of] such an iconic character from the books. What Louis [Hunter] did [as Nick] was really wonderful.”

So what does Zylka’s imminent stay mean for all involved? Stay tuned.
