We have two pieces of news for fans of NBC’s Grimm.

First, Spy Kids star Daryl Sabara is going to guest star on an upcoming episode of the Friday night series. Second, the show is going to tackle the popular fairy tale of “Hansel and Gretel,” which ought to make for an intriguing hour. Hannah Marks, from USA’s Necessary Roughness, will also guest star, playing Sabara’s sister.

The pitch: “Hanson (Sabara) and Gracie (Marks) are homeless teens trying to survive in the streets of Portland, when they unexpectedly get caught up in the creature world’s deadly black market of human organ dealing.”

The episode’s title: “Organ Grinder.” Yikes! Still, losing body parts arguably still better than a witch trying to roast you alive in her oven like in the original story. What will Hanson and Gracie use instead of the trail of breadcrumbs, you think?

Lowe's apologizes (sort of) for pulling Muslim reality show ads

Categories: Television

UPDATED: You know how when you’re really mad at your significant other and, even though they don’t think they’ve done anything wrong, they’ll apologize “for hurting your feelings” — but the apology is really more about you being mad than the other person admitting they messed up?

That’s what Lowe’s just did in their spat with TLC’s All-American Muslim.

The hardware giant updated their stance on pulling its ads from the reality show, which has caused a furor of outrage. READ FULL STORY »

The American Film Institute has been releasing a top 10 movie list since 2000, yet one more volley in the heady awards season hullabaloo. But since 2001, the AFI has also released a list of its top television programs of the year, and their selections have often recognized shows overlooked by other awards groups, like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Wire, Battlestar Galactica, and Party Down.

This year’s list recognizes several shows for the first time, including HBO’s Game of Thrones, Showtime’s Homeland, FX’s Justified and Louie, and CBS’ The Good Wife. Notably absent: Fox’s Glee, which was on the ’09 and ’10 lists; AMC’s The Walking Dead, which made last year’s list; and any miniseries or made-for-TV movies, which usually make up a healthy portion of the list.

'Leverage': Beth Riesgraf previews tonight's timeline-bending caper

Tonight is girl’s night on Leverage.

Parker (Beth Riesgraf) and Sophie (Gina Bellman) team up for a job in the first of two gender-splitting episodes that will air over the next two weeks. “The boys go out for a night and the girls go out for a night,” explains Riesgraf. “This week we’ll see the girls out on the town and what trouble they get into and how Parker manages to rope everyone else in. And you’ll see how the two episodes interlink next week.”

In tonight’s episode, Sophie and her friend Tara (Jeri Ryan) meet up for a night out, while Parker goes to see her friend Peggy, who Parker suspects is the target of a “James Bond-like thief.” Not one to stand by with her suspicions ( “[Parker] will have her friends’ backs — to a fault, I think,” laughs Riesgraf), she brings Sophie into the action. Russell Simmons blasts Lowe's for pulling Muslim show ads: 'This can't happen in America' -- EXCLUSIVE

Categories: Television

UPDATED: Hip-hop mogul and social activist Russell Simmons slammed hardware giant Lowe’s for its decision to pull its ads from TLC’s All-American Muslim reality show and warned the company could face outrage from civil rights groups beyond the Muslim community.

“This can’t happen in America; [Lowe's] needs to fix this immediately,” Simmons said, calling the move Islamophobic. “They can’t get away with that, it’s ridiculous. There are American principals at stake here. I can’t imagine the Anti-Defamation League, the NAACP, the National Urban League, or any organization that fights for their own rights will allow this to happen to any other group because they know they’re next.”

The Def Jam founder is chairman of the The Foundation for Ethnic Understanding, which promotes racial and inter-faith harmony — particularly among Muslim-Jewish relations. He notes his organization consists of “hundreds of imams and rabbis who work together to promote harmony around this country.”

“If I go to work on this,” Simmons said, “they’re not even going to believe it. This is not going to be a Muslim fight. I don’t want to take my time and start a boycott — don’t make me do that.” READ FULL STORY »

A TLC reality show offering a positive portrayal of Muslim life has come under protest and at least one advertiser has pulled its support.

Hardware store giant Lowe’s has yanked ads from the series after the Florida Family Association encouraged members to email the program’s advertisers.

“The show profiles only Muslims that appear to be ordinary folks while excluding many Islamic believers whose agenda poses a clear and present danger to liberties and traditional values that the majority of Americans cherish,” the group said about the show, a docu-soap chronicling everyday Muslim families in Dearborn, Michigan that debuted last month. “Clearly this program is attempting to manipulate Americans into ignoring the threat of jihad and to influence them to believe that being concerned about the jihad threat would somehow victimize these nice people in this show.”

The organization posted a letter allegedly from a Lowe’s representative agreeing to pull its ads: READ FULL STORY »

Oprah spinoff 'The Nate Berkus Show' to end run

So long, Nate Berkus: Sony and Harpo Studios have decided to pull the plug on his syndicated decorating show at the end of this season. The spinoff from The Oprah Winfrey Show bowed in 2010 but Berkus, an interior designer, never garnered a decent following.

Through mid-November, the second season of Berkus’ show has been averaging 1.37 million viewers — below The Wendy Williams Show (1.4 million) and above The Jeremy Kyle Show (695,000). The most watched show in syndication is Dr. Phil at 4.0 million.

“After careful consideration, we have decided that The Nate Berkus Show will not return for a third season in the fall,” Sony and Harpo said in a joint statement to Broadcasting & Cable. “We are grateful for the hard work and heart that Nate, [executive producer] Corin Nelson and their entire team have poured into the show, and we’re very proud of what they’ve delivered.”

Added Berkus, “I’m incredibly proud of my hard-working and talented staff, and proud of the show we were able to produce every day.”

A whole new crop of talk shows are coming down the pipeline this fall hosted by the likes of Jeff Probst, Steve Harvey, Katie Couric and Ricki Lake.
