Man down!

ABC is pulling comedy Man Up from its prime-time schedule. Instead, the network will plug in repeats of the show’s lead-in, Tim Allen’s Last Man Standing.

The Tuesday comedy most recently delivered a decent 8.8 million viewers, but only a 1.6 rating among adults 18-49 (plus it shed 40 percent of its Last Man lead-in). ABC notes the comedy isn’t officially canceled, the network might use remaining episodes to fill a hole at some point. But for all intents and purposes…

CBS’ Survivor went up. Annnnd that’s about it for the good news in Wednesday’s ratings, since every other major broadcast show declined to some degree.

The biggest dropper was the second episode of Fox’s I Hate My Teenage Daughter, which fell 25 percent from last week’s premiere. Teenage Daughter (5.4 million viewers, 2.1 adults 18-49 rating) probably wasn’t helped by ABC’s time-slot sitcom rival Happy Endings (6.5 million, 2.9) returning this week with a new original episode.

Overall: CBS won the night with Survivor (11.5 million, 3.3) rising 6 percent in its homestretch. Criminal Minds (12.3 million, 3.4) was down 8 percent. CSI (11.1 million, 2.5) dipped 4 percent, but won 10 p.m. READ FULL STORY »

Ryan Seacrest, OUT — to Today? The American Idol host is reportedly in talks to replace Matt Lauer on NBC’s morning show, should Matt Lauer opt to leave after his contract expires next year.

NBC suits began preliminary talks with Seacrest on Tuesday about joining the show, the Wall Street Journal reports. The celebrity entrepreneur — who also hosts a daily show for E! — is NBC’s top pick to replace Lauer, who began tipping off his bosses this year that he wants to leave by December 2012. At the time, a Today spokesperson said “there seems to be an awful lot of speculation around news anchors these days, and it’s not our practice to comment on any of it. Matt Lauer has a long term contract with NBC News and Today.”

Lauer has co-anchored the morning show since 1997. He began with Katie Couric and now sits opposite Ann Curry, who took over for Meredith Vieira. NBC is staying mum about the latest developments.

Seacrest, meanwhile, begins hosting the next season of Idol on Jan. 22.

Jeff Probst on episode 13 of 'Survivor: South Pacific'

Each week, host Jeff Probst answers a few questions about the most recent episode of Survivor: South Pacific.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Do you kneel down and thank God every morning for bringing you the Hantz family? As if Russell’s evil genius gameplay and Brandon’s schizophrenic back-and-forth drama hasn’t given you enough great TV, now here comes Shawn to shake things up on the loved ones visit. Two part question: 1) Was there ever any talk of Russell coming as Brandon’s loved one, or could that not happen because he was planning to keep that connection a secret? And 2) How many other Hantzes are out there waiting to get on the show?
JEFF PROBST: The Survivor Gods have been very good to us over the years and the Hantz family is one of our greatest gifts. I think Brandon did consider having his uncle Russell come visit but he wasn’t sure at the start of the show whether he would ever admit to being a Hantz so he decided to play it safe and bring his dad. How great would that have been to bring Russell on the show as a loved one?!!  READ FULL STORY »

'American Horror Story': Taissa Farmiga talks last night's huge Violet twist -- 'I totally called it'

Ray Mickshaw/FX

SPOILER ALERT IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN LAST NIGHT’S EPISODE OF AMERICAN HORROR STORY!!! Fans of FX’s horror series have been debating for weeks now whether or not Violet (Taissa Farmiga) is dead or alive and last night’s episode finally revealed the truth: Violet actually died weeks ago after a pill overdose. Farmiga says it was tough reading that her character had perished. “I was sad because now she’s trapped there,” says the actress. “She can’t get away from it. Once she finds out all the secrets that are around, she’s not gonna be too happy.” That’s an understatement given that her boyfriend Tate (Evan Peters) not only impregnated her mother Vivien (Connie Britton) with potentially the anti-Christ but is also basically a serial killer. And you thought Edward and Bella had it bad. EW talked to Farmiga about the shocking twist and what this means for her character’s future on American Horror Story.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Were you surprised to find out Violet was dead?
TAISSA FARMIGA: Honestly, I totally called it. The writers gave you little hints like she hasn’t been to school in two weeks. I was like, “Wait a minute — Is Violet dead? Is she dead?” I was asking people and they wouldn’t tell me and they weren’t allowed to tell me. As soon as I read the script, I screamed. I was like, “I knew it!” READ FULL STORY »

After Drew Ryniewicz was eliminated on The X Factor last week, some angry fans expressed their outrage on Twitter and Facebook. Unfortunately, a few of those messages took the form of death threats directed toward judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger, who both opted to save Marcus Canty instead of Ryniewicz. After Wednesday’s show, the five remaining singers had a simple message for those haters on Twitter: chill out.

“I just want people to relax,” Marcus Canty, who was also a recipient of some hostile online comments, told reporters backstage. “This is a friendly competition. There’s no reason to say you’re going to bomb people’s houses or try to kill them. It affected me because I love Paula and Nicole — they’re so nice. It makes me feel bad to see other people being so hateful and rude to them, but I guess that’s just part of the show.” READ FULL STORY »

'American Horror Story': Ryan Murphy on the Violet reveal and Ben's 'magical towel' -- EXCLUSIVE

SPOILER ALERT IF YOU HAVEN’T WATCHED THE LATEST AMERICAN HORROR STORY!!!! Well, Ryan Murphy had promised last week that we would get closure on Violet’s status and we sure did: The Harmon daughter is indeed dead. She kicked the bucket a few episodes back when she took all those pills, attempting suicide. While it appeared Tate had saved her, he was in fact too late. Last night’s episode, “Smoldering Children,” also revealed that Tate was actually the one who burned Larry in a drug-induced rage before embarking on the school shooting. Heavy stuff but then there was some levity when Tate attacked Ben, who was wearing only a towel. For more on Ben’s “magical towel” (see photo for a lovely visual aid) as well as Violet’s big twist, EW talked to AHS maestro Ryan Murphy.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: So Violet’s dead. Did you always plan on that happening? READ FULL STORY »

The second season premiere of MTV’s Teen Mom 2 launched to the biggest ratings in the franchise’s history, while a conservative parent group took aim at the show.

The MTV release notes that the Centers for Disease Control announced the U.S. teen birth rate declined 9 percent in 2010 and is now at the lowest level ever reported. In other words: We’re not glamorizing teen pregnancy so get off our backs already!

But the folks over the the Parents Television Council say the show is harmful to young women nonetheless, launching a well-timed press release this morning admonishing Teen Mom and other MTV series: READ FULL STORY »
