'MythBusters' cannonball collides with home during experiment

Categories: Television

A stunt for the TV show MythBusters sent an errant cannonball through a California family’s house and into a parked minivan a few hundred feet away.

Producers for the Discovery Channel show fired the cannonball Tuesday at the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department bomb range behind the Santa Rita Jail when it misfired.

Sheriff’s spokesman J.D. Nelson told the Contra Costa Times that no one was injured and the home’s residents didn’t even wake up until the dust was settled — literally on top of them. READ FULL STORY »

TNT develops medical drama with David E. Kelley and Dr. Sanjay Gupta

Categories: Television

Look who’s getting into the drama biz! TNT has ordered a pilot for a new medical series from David E. Kelley (Chicago Hope) and CNN medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta. Dubbed Chelsea General, the project is based on Gupta’s upcoming novel Monday Mornings.

Chelsea General promises to be a smart, witty and extremely powerful medical drama, the kind of series David E. Kelley is renowned for making,” said Michael Wright, executive vice president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies, in a statement. “We look forward to working with David and Sanjay in bringing the doctors’ fascinating stories and characters to television.”

Gupta’s book that will be published in March follows the lives of five surgeons “as they push the limits of their abilities and confront their personal and professional failings.”

Kelley is currently the executive producer on NBC’s Harry’s Law. The Peacock declined to pick up his Wonder Woman pilot earlier this season.

'Suburgatory' casting scoop: Robin Givens is Dallas' long-time rival

Dallas is about to go toe-to-manicured toe with Robin Givens!

EW has learned exclusively that Givens is slated to appear in a March episode of the ABC freshman comedy Suburgatory as Tulsa, a longtime rival of Dallas (Cheryl Hines) from her sorority days, who back in the day made it her mission to wrong Dallas at every given opportunity — whether that meant stealing her hot older boyfriend or her Olivia Newton-John leg warmers. That bitch!

Described as a “wolf in zebra print clothing,” Tulsa is said to be the only person Dallas has ever “said unkind words to without regrets.”

Givens, who also appeared on the last season of Chuck, will appear in episode 17 of the comedy, which airs its last original episode of the year tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. ET. Suburgatory returns with new episodes Jan. 4.

'Single Ladies': Meet the Vh1 series' newest castmember Denise Vasi

AP

Last summer, Vh1′s scripted series Single Ladies, about friends dating in Atlanta, became a big hit for the network, which quickly greenlit a second season. But star Stacey Dash (Clueless) shocked fans when she announced in August that she wouldn’t be returning for another year of the show in order to spend more time with her children in LA. Enter actress Denise Vasi, from USA’s White Collar and ABC’s All My Children, who has stepped in to complete the titular trio. Vasi will begin shooting the second season of Ladies this January and will take on the new role of Raquel, a pal of returning castmember LisaRaye McCoy’s Keisha. EW talked to Vasi about being the newest Single lady.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: How did this come together?
DENISE VASI: Obviously the show was a huge success and I had the conversation with my manager. “Let’s keep an eye out if anything comes up even guest-star wise for the show.” A casting sheet went out and I went in and read the first time and I was lucky enough to come back again and read a second time. Then I read in New York and I read one more time in LA. We had a few work sessions and then I screen-tested. READ FULL STORY »

'Last Man Standing': Nancy Travis previews Nick Jonas' guest spot

Categories: Television
Nancy-Travis

Tim Allen is about to meet his match — and it’s teen pop star Nick Jonas.

EW was the first to tell you about Nick Jonas’ guest spot on tonight’s Last Man Standing, and when Nancy Travis (who plays Vanessa Baxter) stopped by EW a few days ago, the actress previewed the pop star’s guest starring role as baby Boyd’s “smart aleck” father in the show’s special Christmas episode.

“He and Tim’s character lock heads,” says Travis, who earlier this year also appeared in CW’s Hart of Dixie. “And [Allen's character Mike] doesn’t have very much respect for his, but it’s the Christmas episode so it’s about forgiveness — with a big ‘F.’”

'Hot in Cleveland': The ladies go on a gay cruise in episode 'Beards'! -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

Since TV Land’s Hot in Cleveland premiered its third season last Wednesday, that means that — yes! — we’re treated to a new episode every week now. And in celebration of tomorrow’s show, EW has an exclusive clip from the half hour, which is titled “Beards.” We bet you can figure out what it’s all about from that title, considering that much of the recent storyline surrounding Victoria (Wendie Malick) and Joy (Jane Leeves) has concerned their faux-lesbian marriage that happened at the end of last season. However, this time it’s Melanie (Valerie Bertinelli) who’s looking for a faux girlfriend while on a gay cruise with her pals and Elka (Betty White). Who does she look to? It’s pretty funny, but you’ll have to watch the clip below to find out more:
