Groups slam ABC cross-dressing comedy 'Work It'

Categories:

ABC should have known that airing a cross-dressing comedy was going to draw controversy.

The upcoming series Work It — about two men who disguise themselves as women to land jobs — is taking fire from two organizations that say the show is offensive to the transgender community. “During a period in which the transgender community now routinely finds itself in the cultural crosshairs, the timing couldn’t be worse for a show based on the notion that men dressed as women is inherently funny,” writes Matt Kane, the associate director of entertainment media at the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.

GLAAD concedes that the show’s pilot doesn’t explicitly mock transgender people, yet maintains that a program whose goal is to find humor in men dressing up as women will encourage audiences to mock those with actual gender-identity issues. READ FULL STORY »

'Ringer' casts Matthew Del Negro as cocky new agent -- EXCLUSIVE

The CW’s Ringer won’t return with new episodes until Jan 31, but here’s something to look forward to: the Sarah Michelle Gellar show has cast Matthew Del Negro (The Sopranos, The United States of Tara) in the recurring role of Agent Grady Torrance. He will cross paths with Agent Machado (Nestor Carbonell) and is Machado’s nemesis at the bureau. Agent G is described as cocky, slick, and smooth — and, we’re told, will handle his new investigation according to his own agenda. His first appearance is scheduled for the March 6 episode.

Del Negro was most recently seen on TNT’s Rizzoli & Isles, where he recurred as cocky but harmless grease monkey Giovanni, who was led to believe Jane (Angie Harmon) and Maura (Sasha Alexander) are lesbian lovers so he’d stop hitting on them.

It's Rob Lowe, bitch: Lifetime's 'Untouchable' trailer is exactly that -- VIDEO

Categories: Television, Trailers

Welcome to the trailer for Rob Lowe‘s Lifetime movie Untouchable, bitch. (Sorry, The O.C., you have officially been trumped.) After weeks of wondering what in the world became of the handsome Parks and Rec star’s hair, we have our answer: He was filming this by-no-means-should-this-actually-be-funny Drew Peterson biopic. Was it worth the sacrifice? If this clip — which, just to be clear, is not some sort of Saturday Night Live parody of Lifetime movies — is any indication, then… absolutely. The clip is short, 30 seconds to be exact, but we learn a lot about Lowe’s interpretation of the accused wife-killer: He committed another crime by stealing Ron Swanson’s mustache and turning it gray, he’s very indecisive about how he wants the garage door, and he is untouchable… bitch. See for yourself: READ FULL STORY »

'X Factor,' 'Person of Interest' top Thursday ratings

Categories: TV Ratings
the-mentalist_240.jpg

The December holiday ratings slide has begun in earnest. Overall TV viewing levels were down four percent overall last night. Between the weakening audience levels and number of repeats on the air, the morning ratings will have less relevance through the end of the year. So for the next couple weeks, we’ll post the numbers when something of particular interest happens (like the upcoming X Factor and Terra Nova finales), but not necessarily every morning.

That said: Thursday night saw CBS’ Person of Interest (12.8 million viewers, 2.8 adults 18-49 rating) and Fox’s The X Factor (9.7 million, 2.8) — along with a Big Bang Theory repeat — leading the night in the adult demo. Interest and The Mentalist (13 million, 2.7) managed to maintain last week’s numbers, X Factor was down a tenth. ABC’s two-hour Katie Couric special (5.5 million, 1.5) was modest. NBC is still not done burning off the rest of Prime Suspect (3.6 million, 0.8), which fell to a new low.
