You might want to purchase a few extra boxes of Kleenex before you watch the next few installments of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition: ABC will end the long-running and uplifting reality series in January, the network announced today. The show, which dramatically renovated more than 200 houses for in-need families in all 50 states while galvanizing communities and moistening millions of viewers’ tear ducts, will unveil its last two episodes in January. In the 200th and final episode, airing Jan. 13, seven homes will be built in a week for victims of the tornadoes that ravaged Joplin, Mo.

The Emmy-winning, Ty Pennington-hosted show premiered in 2003 and averaged a series-high of 15.8 million viewers during the 2004-05 season, but has been earning only 5.9 million viewers in its ninth season after a move from Sunday to Friday. ABC did note that EM:HE will return to the air with specials after this season.

The Greatest Generations Foundation, an organization dedicated to promoting respect for U.S. war veterans, wants what it deems a proper apology from Hawaii Five-0 executive producer Peter Lenkov for events that took place on Dec. 9, when filming for the series coincided with 24 WWII veterans’ visit to the Honolulu’s National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (known as the “Punchbowl”).

The CBS show was there to shoot a scene in which McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) visits his father’s grave. The vets were there to lay roses on the graves of the unknown. “While our veterans were doing this, the crew staff walked among the veterans telling them to keep quiet and stay out of the line site of the actors’ shot,” said Timothy Davis, President and CEO of Greatest Generations. Megahit Pawn Stars is getting a spinoff on History channel.

The network is launching Cajun Pawn Stars, chronicling the daily business at the Silver Dollar Pawn & Jewelry Center in Alexandria, Louisiana. The move takes one of cable’s most popular shows and combines it with the recent trend of bayou-based reality titles like History’s Swamp People.

Silver Dollar Pawn is one of the biggest pawn shops in the South, storing more than 100,000 items and should give viewers a rather different style of inventory compared to the Las Vegas-based original (for one thing, the store trades in livestock). Fourteen episodes have been ordered with a premiere set for Jan. 8.

It was a good morning for Ryan Murphy as both of his TV series, Glee and American Horror Story, were nominated for Golden Globes. Glee snagged a Best Comedy Series nom while AHS scored Best Drama Series and Best Supporting Actress for star Jessica Lange. EW talked to Murphy for his reactions to the nominations.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Are you so excited about the nominations?
RYAN MURPHY: I was so excited because I wasn’t expecting either of those. Yeah, I was really happy.

I sorta thought AHS would get nominated because the Globes tend to favor newer stuff. Were you surprised more by that getting nominated than Glee? READ FULL STORY »

Jon Stewart, Conan O’Brien and… Russell Brand?

FX has made a deal with the British comic actor to host a late-night comedy show in front a live studio audience.

Currently described as “specials,” the six half-hour installments will feature the Forgetting Sarah Marshall star’s “unfiltered take on current events, politics and pop culture” in front of an audience and drawing “heavily on interaction with that audience.” If that sounds a bit vague, that’s because the format is still being hammered out, but sources say that the description shouldn’t be mistaken for a talk show. Person to Person, the CBS News interview show made famous by Edward R. Murrow in the early 1950s, is being revived for co-hosts Charlie Rose and Lara Logan. “We have dreamed about bringing a modern version of this great program, Person to Person, back to CBS for years — and now it is happening,” said 60 Minutes executive producer, Jeff Fager. “It is an exciting new development for us, particularly because it will be led by two of our most accomplished producers and two of our best interviewers.”

Just as Murrow brought viewers into the kitchens and living rooms of celebrities like Elizabeth Taylor and John F. Kennedy, Rose and Logan will interview famous people in informal, personal settings that encourage “unexpectedly vivid and touching revelations.”

Person to Person begins Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 8 p.m.

The Patrick Jane that was thought to be gone forever is making a comeback tonight.

For The Mentalist‘s midseason finale, executive producer and writer Daniel Cerone says they wanted to give fans a chance to see the Patrick Jane of the past — with a twist. “We always thought it’d be fun to see the old Patrick Jane. You know, the psychic hookster in a shiny suit, but the only real way to do that would be a flashback episode, and those types of episodes generally turn out to be disappointing.” READ FULL STORY »

Would you believe the Parents Television Council doesn’t approve of NBC’s new America’s Got Talent judge?

The parents group slammed NBC’s announcement this morning that Howard Stern is joining the hit show.

“In an act of desperation by a flailing network, NBC has hired Howard Stern – a performer who is synonymous with shock, profanity and obscenity – as a judge on a prime-time talent competition,” said PTC president Tim Winter. “Not coincidentally, in just over three weeks the network will be standing before the United States Supreme Court arguing for the right to use the F-word at any time of the day, even in front of children.
