Parents Television Council have built up a fresh froth of outrage, this time over MTV’s scripted series I Just Want My Pants Back.

Pants Back is a relationship comedy with a cast in their 20s. PTC says its going after the show’s sponsors because MTV is targeting 12-year-old children with the show’s risque content.

“Once again MTV is taking HBO-style content and marketing it to a Nickelodeon-age audience,” says PTC president Tim Winter. “The network programming executive is on the record saying 12-year-olds are in his crosshairs. And the TV-14 content rating is intentionally misleading for parents and for advertisers. The Parents Television Council will not sit silently and allow this affront to go unchallenged.”

PTC sit silently? Perish the thought! But this is my favorite quote:

“All of MTV’s advertisers, including Dr. Pepper, T-Mobile and Toyota, will be asked if foursomes and a woman who tells her sexual partner to ‘stick a finger in my a**’ are an accurate reflection of their hard-earned corporate brands,” Winter said. “Parents need to be warned about MTV’s stated intention to target children as young as 12 with this explicit material.”

Yes. I want to see PTC members asking Toyota executives if consensual bum diddling accurately represents the new 2012 Sienna minivan (whose current slogan is “Daddy Like”). Let’s get that conversation on video, please.

Here’s the thing: MTV’s target demo is indeed 12 to 34, which is stated in the article which Winter is referring to. But not every MTV show is aimed toward the youngest end of the network’s demo and Pants Back airs at 11 p.m. The PTC previously went after MTV’s short-lived Skins, though had a better claim to outrage with that one.

When told of the PTC’s attack, a source close to the situation replied: “They’re using random paraphrased quotes out of context to continue their agenda.”

UPDATE: A few readers below smartly point out MTV airs Pants Back repeats during the day when kids are watching. Busted? Well, you be the judge: The daytime Pants Back episodes are edited versions with the racy stuff taken out.
