Pat Buchanan is no longer a member of the MSNBC political broadcast team. The conservative TV pundit, who served in the Nixon White House and ran for president himself on three occasions, had been part of the network since 2002 but he hadn’t appeared on air since October, when he was suspended for controversial comments in his new book, Suicide of a Superpower: Will America Survive to 2025? MSNBC wished Buchanan well in a statement yesterday, but in January, the network’s boss Phil Griffin had told the New York Times, “The ideas he put forth [in his book] aren’t really appropriate for national dialogue, much less the dialogue on MSNBC.”
“My days as a political analyst at MSNBC have come to an end,” Buchanan wrote yesterday in a lengthy post on The American Conservative website, titled “Blacklisted, but not Beaten.” “After 10 enjoyable years, I am departing, after an incessant clamor from the left that to permit me continued access to the microphones of MSNBC would be an outrage against decency, and dangerous.”
