Courteney Cox set down Big Carl long enough to step behind the camera as director of tonight’s episode of Cougar Town. She and costar Josh Hopkins spoke with EW about her directing role and shared a few season 3 spoilers.

Cox said that timing was everything when she decided when to take over the directing reins. “It’s early enough on in the season that I’d knew there’d be a script written, and I knew I’d have time to prepare,” she said. “It was perfect timing.” With one episode under her belt, Cox decided to take on a second episode which will air later this season. “I’d already done it, so it was not that big of a deal,” she said. “Just kinda flying by the seat of your pants!”

You’ll have to be the judge of tonight’s “Full Moon Fever” (check PopWatch tonight for a full recap), but Hopkins is already convinced of Cox’s directing success. “We had unique shots, and things that we hadn’t had in the series before,” he said. “It was a lot of fun for all of us. I think her two episodes are two of the best of the season.”

So what should you expect to see tonight? A Scrubs reunion! Sarah Chalke guest-stars as Angie, Travis’ photography professor. Cox said this is the first of several Scrubs cameos. So keep your eyes peeled. Laurie falls for a guy she meet on Twitter. Meanwhile, Jules and Andy pay homage to Braveheart, when they go to war against an unruly gang of kids: “These bicycle boys are trying to ruin our yards and go straight through our property to the mall,” said Cox. “We have a standoff. There’s a lot of those kids! So it’s not easy. It was tough, but you’ll see.”

And Hopkins said there are definitely a lot of pitfalls leading up to his pending nuptials, but he promises that the couple does, in fact, make it to the wedding. “You’ve never seen a wedding like this, nor will you ever again,” promised Cox. “Let’s just say there’s a horse. Neither one of us are great horseback riders, but we had to act like we were, on a piece of equipment.” To which Hopkins quickly added, “Yeah, pretending to ride a horse is actually a lot harder than riding a horse.”
