'Voice' team 'thrilled' at returning ... in the fall?

NBC’s The Voice team doesn’t dispute the possibility that the show might return in the fall.

Host/producer Carson Daly, executive producer Mark Burnett, and judges Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green were at a press conference for the show in Pasadena on Tuesday. Asked about rumors that the show’s third season would air in the fall (which we’ve been hearing as well), Daly simply replied: “Well, we certainly would be excited about the opportunity to put this show, that so many are excited about, on again. It’s a call from the network we haven’t gotten yet. But we’d be thrilled by it.”

NBC has not announced a third season for The Voice, but the show is expected to return next season with all four judges on board. Given the show’s strong ratings performance, NBC could also benefit by using the show as a lead-in for launching new series.

The Voice panel was also asked how the judges would fare, hypothetically of course, as contestants on the show. Shelton offered: “I think Cee Lo would thrive because he’s so versatile. I’m a one trick pony so I could hopefully get through the blinds, then I’d start sucking.”

“I would be interesting to say the least,” Cee Lo says.

Burnett adds: “Of course all four would easily get through, they have perfect voices.”

Burnett also said there might be crossovers with NBC’s musical drama Smash in the future (previously, Smash star Katharine McPhee appeared on The Voice to promote her show), while he took issue when a reporter used the term “reality” TV to describe his show.

“I hate the word ‘reality,'” Burnett told critics. “It’s a journalistic-fabricated lazy term … it doesn’t matter if it’s unscripted . To be on network television, prime-time is a major gift and responsibility. You have to treat it the same as a scripted drama or comedy. All that matters is if it’s good or not. Good shows make it and bad shows don’t. And the arbitrator isn’t anybody in this room — you’re wrong a lot — I’ve been wrong. The arbitrator is the American viewing public and that’s what makes it great.”
