Gossip Girlwasn’t on The CW’s recent list of early (read: easy decision) renewals, but most insiders think the show will get a final season order (perhaps announced on the day of the network’s upfront next week? Just like the One Tree Hill final season pickup last year…).
Monday night’s episode didn’t help the show’s chances, but at this point the show’s outcome is unlikely to change anyway: Gossip Girl (869,000 viewers, 0.4 adult demo rating) fell 50 percent this week to an all-time low. Hart of Dixie (1.3 million, 0.6), however, made its expected renewal decision easier. Though the show dipped slightly from last week, it still rose mightily from its Gossip lead-in.
Some Monday highlights: NBC’s performance finale for The Voice (10.5 million, 3.7) was up 6 percent this week and tied CBS’ Two and a Half Men (11.3 millin, 3.7) as the night’s top-rated show. Smash (5.9 million, 1.9) rose 6 percent.
ABC’s Castle (12.6 million, 2.5) season finale won the 10 p.m. hour and was up slightly.
CBS aired a one-hour 2 Broke Girls (8.4 million, 3.2) finale, which fell to a series low. Of course, this meant the show had to self-start at 8 p.m. instead of enjoying a HIMYM lead-in at 8:30 p.m. (always fun to watch CBS’ little scheduling experiments as its upfront presentation gets closer and try to tea leaf what they might mean…).
