'The Game' season finale scoop: Rick Fox returns to stir up trouble with Tasha? -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

After being absent from The Game for a spell, Rick Fox is headed back into the mix on the BET comedy’s fifth-season finale, which will air June 5 at 10 p.m. And don’t expect the former professional basketball star — who plays a fictionalized version of himself on the show — to just come and go quietly: Fox’s presence will likely stir up trouble for his old flame Tasha (Wendy Raquel Robinson), who’s enjoying what seems to be a healthy relationship with her childhood best friend Pookie (Rockmond Dunbar).

EW has an exclusive look at Rick’s reappearance on the series — the video clip is below — and enjoyed a quick chat with Robinson, who sheds light on what his return means for Tasha.

As you’ll see in the exclusive clip below, Melanie (Tia Mowry) unexpectedly encounters Rick, giving him the chance to clear up why he and Tasha broke it off. “Melanie runs into Rick at the airport, and you realize it was all a miscommunication,” Robinson says. “It’s like, ‘Oh my God!'”

Rick’s chat with Melanie leads him to do something rather shocking at the end of the episode. “It’s a wonderful cliffhanger,” Robinson says. But just because Fox is back doesn’t mean that Tasha has room for him in her life. “Tasha has finally found love in her childhood best friend Pookie,” Robinson explains. “And it’s really taken Tasha to a vulnerable place that you don’t see and you haven’t seen in the past five and a half seasons. And so here we are: Tasha finally finds the one that she thinks is The One. But there’s always been something in the back of Tasha’s mind, saying, ‘God, Rick Fox, he’s The One, too.’ Because there was no closure.”

So what does the finale mean for the recently announced sixth season of the series? “The one thing I can definitely say is that [creator] Mara [Brock Akil], she picks up where we left off each season, so keep that in mind after the finale’s cliffhanger,” Robinson says. “I cannot begin to guess at where this finale is going to go, I don’t like to do that to my character or to myself. Rick has no idea where Tasha is with her relationship with Pookie. Even Melanie doesn’t know how close Tasha and Pookie have gotten! He’s the closet boyfriend.”

Rick, Tasha, and Pookie’s situation isn’t the only cliffhanger, of course. “You have Melanie and Derwin [Pooch Hall] — they’re at odds and possibly going their separate ways,” says Robinson. “You have the baby mama, she moves to New York. So is she out of the picture? Or is she not? Then we have Chardonnay [Brandy] and Jason [Coby Bell], and are they solidified with their love? Or is this going to be a tumultuous relationship? There’s closure in some senses, but then there’s so many open endings. I love that. I really, really do. I thought it was a really fun finale.”

One thing that’s for sure about the season finale is that it will be the last episode for Mowry and Pooch Hall, who have led the series since it started on The CW in the fall of 2006 and recently announced they would not return. “We’re all kind of holding our breath right now, but the writers are smart, so I’m just trusting the process,” Robinson says of losing Mowry and Hall. “I do know that they are casting right now, and they’re going to bring in two additional characters.”
