ABC is hedging its bet on the sixth season of Private Practice by only ordering 13 episodes for the fall.
The decision to pick up a limited amount allowed the network to gamble on a host of new series for the 2012-13 season. It bought 10 new shows — six dramas, four comedies — for its fall lineup (details on those here).
So does this spell the beginning of the end for the drama from Shonda Rhimes? Though the series only earned a 3.0 rating/8 share in adults 18-49 and averaged 8 million this season, there are no plans — for now — to say ta-ta to the medical drama the stars Kate Walsh, a source close to the show stresses.
Meanwhile, co-star Tim Daly told his fans that he is not returning to the show this fall. “Wonderful fans of PP. Shonda [Rhimes] informed my agent today that Pete won’t be returning for season 6,” Daly tweeted. “It was a great 5 yrs. R.I.P. Pete Wilder.”
Private Practice will air on Tuesdays at 10 this fall.
