Russell Brand on Sarah Palin's popularity: 'People want to [expletive] her'

Russell Brand knows exactly what he’d ask Sarah Palin if she ever agreed to appear on his soon-to-be-retooled late-night show, Brand X.

“I’d go straight to the subtext,” said Brand, during the TCA press tour in Beverly Hills on Saturday. “People want to [expletive] her don’t they? That’s why they tolerate the other stuff….OK, that is a mad thing to say about seeing Russia out your window — but the dick don’t lie.”

The statement capped off a rousing 20-minute-plus Q&A with reporters, during which a barefoot Brand talked about the recent chatter surrounding Chick-Fil-A (“Didn’t Chick-Fil-A say that they’re racist now?….I get mixed up with the prejudices,” he quipped), and the big changes coming to his show, which was just picked up for an additional seven episodes.

“The show will look a little more conventional,” said Brand, who admitted that he sometimes got a little too infatuated with topics of spirituality and revolution in earlier episodes. “We will have guests every week.”

The comedian also explained that the show—which up until now appeared to model a stand-up routine, with Brand discussing various topics with a studio audience—will be more identifiable and recognizable to late-night viewers.

“I think the reason all those late-night shows have a similarity is because people like that,” he said, adding that he’d like his show to have a Daily Show meets Tom Green feel.

He’s already got some guests in mind too—besides Sarah Palin that is: “I know Charlie Sheen a bit,” said Brand. “Maybe we’ll have him on every week and feature a different one of his personalities.”
