On Labor Day, A&E premieres Coma, its four-hour, two-night medical thriller starring Six Feet Under’s Lauren Ambrose as a medical student who suspects there’s a reason why patients at her hospital are falling into a coma during routine surgeries. Based on the best-selling 1977 novel by Robin Cook (which Michael Crichton adapted into a 1978 film), the miniseries was penned by Black Swan‘s John J. McLaughlin and costars Ellen Burstyn, James Woods, Geena Davis, Richard Dreyfuss, and Rescue Me‘s Steven Pasquale.

Watch an exclusive clip below of Burstyn’s character explaining why being “suspended by painlessly-inserted rods” is more comfortable than a standard hospital setting.
