NBC has made the shrewd decision to post the pilot online for NBC’s The New Normal – Ryan Murphy’s single-camera comedy that has already generated press for its depiction of what constitutes a modern-day family.

Earlier this summer, NBC announced plans to provide preview viewings of the Justin Bartha-Ellen Barkin laugher — it already aired during the Olympics — but the timing of the online availability couldn’t be better. The series just received a thumbs-down from the conservative One Million Moms group was just given the heave-ho by a Mormon-owned station in Utah – the same one that declined to air The Playboy Club last season. “For our brand, this program feels inappropriate on several dimensions, especially during family viewing time,” said Jeff Simpson of Bonneville International, the company that owns KSL-TV. The station is in a unique situation since Bonneville is owned by the Church of The Latter-day Saints.

GLAAD responded by saying same-sex families “are a beloved part of American television thanks to shows like Modern Family, Glee and Grey’s Anatomy.

Here’s the pilot for The New Normal, which premieres Sept. 11.
