'Glee' scoop: Co-creator Brad Falchuk spills details on tonight's premiere and season 4

Thursday night is the highly anticipated season 4 premiere of Fox hit Glee, which will finally give viewers a peak at what life is like for the graduated seniors and the remaining students at McKinley. Plus, Kate Hudson makes her sexy debut as Cassandra July, Rachel Berry’s (Lea Michele) brutal NYADA dance teacher. Meanwhile, Rachel is struggling with being separated from Finn (Cory Monteith) — and Finnchel won’t be the only couple struggling with a new reality.  “We’re going to challenge every relationship,” says Falchuk. “Even with the most solid ones there’s always a new challenge. Because that’s real. That’s what happens. You graduate high school and one person stays and one person goes—none of those should ever last. Sometimes they break up and they get back together, but we’re gonna really push them all.”

The first episode, titled “The New Rachel,” finds New Directions in desperate need for some fresh recruits and a new vocal leader now that Rachel has flown the coop. “They’re looking for the New Rachel—that girl or boy,” explains Falchuk. “Who’s gonna be that star in there? Who’s gonna carry the solos and be the ambitious one that pushes everybody else?” Making things even more competitive is now that they’ve won Nationals, glee club is the cool place to be. “The New Directions won, they’re stars, so they’re dealing with that and their popularity, and they have to recruit new members, which is a different experience now because now everybody wants to be in the glee club. But it’s hard to find the right people and so it’s a different challenge.”

Other things to look for this season:

  • Kurt may not have gotten into NYADA but that doesn’t mean he’ll stay in Ohio. “He doesn’t go to NYADA. But he and Rachel get a place together way out in Brooklyn in the worst neighborhood.” Look for Santana to weasel her way out there too.
  • Puck’s half-brother shows up in the premiere. Says Falchuk, “Puck didn’t know about him. And he’s not like Puck at all. It’s a little different. He has a different bad attitude.”
  • Sarah Jessica Parker’s Vogue editor character, Isabelle Klempt, whom Kurt gets an internship with, debuts in episode three, called “Makeover.”
  • Sue (Jane Lynch) has given birth but there’s still some unanswered questions. “We don’t know who the celebrity father is just yet. You’ll find out.” Please let it be Josh Groban.
