'X Factor' and 'Voice' go head to head; winner was.....

Finally, a competition worth covering in primetime. In case you missed it, two high-profile competition shows went head to head in primetime on Wednesday — and both emerged with reasons to brag.

Fox won the night in adults 18-49 and teens because of its two-hour premiere of The X Factor, which posted a 3.4 rating/10 share in adults 18-49, according to early results. But the special airing of The Voice logged the true victory: It won the first hour of the night in 18-49 (3.3/11) and beat the first hour of X Factor. It more than doubled NBC’s average in the time period despite competition from the likes of Britney and Demi on Fox, and attracted more viewers than X Factor (10.6 million versus 8.4 million).

Still, The X Factor definitely shined in most of the key demos like 18-34 and those screaming female teens. Fox also boasted that X Factor grew by 6 percent over its season 1 finale among adults 18-34. There was a lot more number-crunching going on at NBC and Fox, but it was decent night for both music shows. Let’s wait to see how they fare when they have to face more originals in the regular season.

From 9-10 p.m., NBC’s America’s Got Talent posted a season high on Wednesday in viewers and the demo (11 million and a 2.9/8). And a special preview of the new comedy Guys with Kids earned a 2.2/6 in the demo and 6.2 million. Eh, not bad.

The Eye’s Big Brother posted a 2.0/6, down 5% from last week. The rest of CBS’ line up was repeats. ABC went with reruns, too.

Overall, Fox and its two hours of programming won the night in 18-49, followed by NBC (2.7/8), CBS (1.5/5) and ABC (.9/3). NBC was first in viewers (8.9 million), followed by Fox (8.4 million), CBS (6 million) and ABC (3 million).
