Feud? What feud?

Just over 24 hours after the new American Idol judges panel was made official, Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj have found themselves battling rumors of behind-the-scenes disagreements. But the pair laughed them off during a press conference today in New York City. (Of course, was there really any other response we expected?)

“How can you feud in two days?” Carey joked. “I think a feud takes a little longer [to build].”

Carey and Minaj were joined by Keith Urban, Randy Jackson and host Ryan Seacrest as they previewed the new season, which will be the first for three of the judges. Carey, Minaj and Urban beat out a lengthy list of contenders to replace Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.

When asked what made them join the competition show, Minaj and Urban both said they appreciated the American Idol “brand.” (Minaj even recalled having heated discussions with her family before the season 6 finale, when Jordin Sparks was battling against Blake Lewis for the title.) But the ever-candid Carey admitted she wasn’t always a fan of the genre.

“Honestly, I’ve never been a fan of this type of thing,” she said. “But I realized what this show has done for such talented artists — truly giving them careers….I really felt like this would be something to help bring out new talent and [for me] to be a part of that.”

Minaj, meanwhile, sees another silver lining: “I also get a chance to wear a whole bunch of different wigs.”
