Former WB president taking over MTV programming

A veteran executive who championed Buffy the Vampire Slayer is taking over MTV’s programming department.

Susanne Daniels has been named president of programming at MTV. She was previously the programming head at the now-defunct WB network, where she oversaw shows like Dawson’s Creek, Smallville and Gilmore Girls. Daniels more recently had a stint running Lifetime where she oversaw Army Wives and Drop Dead Diva. Daniels will oversee all programming for the network, including both scripted and reality shows.

“Susanne’s delivered more breakthrough pop culture hits in one decade than most producers do in their entire lifetimes,” says Van Toffler, president of MTV Music & Logo Group. “Very few people have the talent and instincts to consistently develop shows that connect with young audiences, but Susanne has thankfully kept in perfect touch with her juvenile side and we’re extremely lucky she will now be joining our restless, creative family here at MTV.”

Daniels takes over as MTV continues to try and expand its slate of scripted shows, which currently includes Teen Wolf and Awkward. MTV’s former head of programming. David Janollari, who has run the department for the past three years, decided not to renew his contract, the network said.
