'Walking Dead' composer to score 'DaVinci' series

Walking Dead composer Bear McCreary has been hired to write the score for Starz upcoming historical action series Da Vinci’s Demons.

Starz put out a press release making this announcement and McCreary may be the only composer working in television today that has enough of a fan base to earn such attention. McCreary’s dramatic and theatrical-quality scoring of Syfy’s Battlestar Galactica earned him major cult following despite starting the gig when he was only 24 years old. He then went to Fox’s Human Target where his work was similarly strong, yet he left the show before its budget-cut second season (McCreary, when possible, likes to work with a full orchestra). His work on AMC’s zombie drama has been much more subdued, mainly consisting of ominous threads of tension. His score has seemed a bit more prominent in the current third season, however. McCreary has also worked on Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles, Eureka, Caprica and The Cape.

“I’ve been a fan of Bear’s since hearing his score for Battlestar Galactica, which was inspired and unexpected,” says Demons writer David S. Goyer. “We wanted something similarly grand, but unconventional for Da Vinci’s Demons.” The drama, telling the ‘untold’ story of Leonardo da Vinci, debuts Spring, 2013.
