Whether TV’s feistiest figures were slapping each other down with words or fists, there was plenty of strife to go around this year. Below, we reminisce fondly over all the boob slapping, bare knuckle boxing, Bachelorette beatdowns, and more.

Best Verbal Fights
5. Jess vs. Cece, New Girl
A rare moment of friction between BFFs Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Cece (Hannah Simone) was mostly waged with snide remarks and icy stares, but how can we not include a fight that ends in boob slapping?

4. Emily vs. Kalon, The Bachelorette
Apparently everything is bigger in Texas — especially the mouths. So Emily Maynard learned when she decided to look for love on TV… again. But when Emily heard through the grapevine that Lone Star State suitor Kalon McMahon had referred to her daughter as “baggage,” this Bachelorette proved she wasn’t a sit-back-and-cry type and used her words to cut the trash talker down to size.

3. Louis vs. Harvey, Suits
Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman) has taken a lot of guff. But when Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) called him out for pressuring secretary Donna (Sarah Rafferty) to reveal her feelings for Harvey during a mock trial cross-examination, Louis unleashed 19 episodes worth of frustration with a spectacular roar.

2. Karl Rove vs. Fox News
In an unexpected election night squabble, the GOP puppetmaster couldn’t just agree to disagree when producers called the race for the incumbent. After several minutes of back-and-forth, host Megyn Kelly took the cameras out of the studio and into the control room to find out the exact rationale for handing tipping-point state Ohio to Barack Obama. In the end, the Deciders were right: Obama won Ohio by more than 100,000 votes, and Rove found himself on the receiving end of a “Don’t call us, we’ll call you” quasi-ban from the network.

1. Nicki Minaj vs. Mariah Carey, American Idol
Pound the alarm! The new Idol judges haven’t even hit the airwaves yet, but their caught-on-flipcam shouting match gave the fans and casual viewers of show alike new reason to believe season 12 might bring back the magic. We can only hope producers don’t shy away from showcasing the conflict when the audition round begins airing next month. Though it’s much less likely, can we also put in a request for plenty o’ sound effects (Gong!) and color commentary by Ryan Seacrest?
