Matthew Perry's 'Go On' falls to season low

Go On got out of viewers’ living rooms last night.

Never underestimate, even in this age of DVRs, the power of a strong lead-in: Without The Voice boosting its Tuesday comedies, NBC’s freshman comedies Go On and The New Normal fell to season lows last night, down 24 percent and 14 percent, respectively, from last week. Go On (whose episode was ironically titled “Comeback Player of the Year”) had 4 million viewers and a 1.3 adults 18-49 rating, while New Normal had 3.3 million and a 1.2 rating. Go On also fell from its Off Their Rockers lead-in.

The season finale of NBC’s Parenthood improved upon its lead-in with 4.8 million viewers and a 1.7 rating, though that’s down 11 percent from last week. There’s been plenty of talk about whether Parenthood will see another season; I think its chances are pretty good for a final outing.

Meanwhile ABC’s new cooking competition series The Taste opened decently for a low-wattage midseason reality show. The two-hour opener had 6 million viewers a 2.2 rating, up a tick in the demo from the season premiere of Dancing With the Stars in the time period this fall.

Also Tuesday, the Private Practice series finale was down 17 percent from last May. Fox’s Raising Hope, Ben and Kate and New Girl were all up between 6 and 11 percent from last week, while Mindy Project was steady. The CW’s Hart of Dixie was steady too.
