CNN sees shakeups

It was a busy day over at CNN.

Tuesday saw a number of high-profile shakeups both in front of the camera and behind the scenes for the cable news network, which, like Time Inc.’s EW, is a division of Time Warner.

Most notably, CNN saw the addition of Chris Cuomo, who is leaving ABC News to host a new morning show. The move is one in a number of major shifts following the addition of Jeff Zucker, who was named president of CNN in November.

Cuomo, who was Elizabeth Vargas’ co-host on ABC newsmagazine 20/20, will be succeeded by David Muir, ABC announced today.

Additionally, married couple and famously political opposites James Carville and Mary Matalin announced today they were leaving their posts at CNN, where they have held spots as commentators for more than 10 and three years, respectively.

Behind the scenes, managing editor Mark Whitaker stepped down today, and according to AP, Zucker will assume all of Whitaker’s content duties.
