Hogwarts will meet Who in the forthcoming TV movie An Adventure in Space and Time, which details the creation of the 50-year-old British science-fiction show Doctor Who. It has been announced that Harry Potter actor David Bradley, who played Hogwarts caretaker Argus Filch in the beloved film series, will portray “First Doctor” William Hartnell in the TV movie.

Meanwhile, Brian Cox (The Bourne Identity) is set to portray BBC Head of Drama Sydney Newman and Jessica Raine has been cast as Doctor Who producer Verity Lambert. BBC America — which is co-producing the film with BBC Cymru Wales — will premiere the movie in the U.S. later this year.

An Adventure in Space and Time is being directed by Terry McDonough (Breaking Bad) and written by Mark Gatiss, who has penned several episodes of Doctor Who since its successful revival in 2005, as well as co-creating, and starring in the amazingly bizarre BBC sitcom League of Gentlemen. The movie will be executive produced by Gatiss and current Who exec producers Steven Moffat and Caroline Skinner.

“It’s a lovely story about very fascinating characters,” Skinner says. “There are lots of witty and entertaining stories about the genesis of Doctor Who which say quite a lot about what the early ‘60s in Britain was like. But it’s also a very personal story about William Hartnell and Verity Lambert and their relationship being forged in the making of what turned out to be a sensational hit show that we’re still watching today.”

As previously announced, BBC America will premiere the second half of the current season of Doctor Who on March 30.

You can see Hartnell playing the Doctor in the very first Who adventure, “An Unearthly Child,” below.
