'Kids Choice' builds in tot demo

A strong showing from Josh Duhamel and the Kids Choice Awards helped Nickelodeon to post its highest rated telecast in four months since the iCarly finale. Saturday night’s live premiere averaged 5.8 million total viewers and 2.7 million kids ages 2-11, up slightly from last year’s show. Among kids 6-11, the awards show averaged 2.0 million and among 9-14, it lured 1.9 million.

Kids picked their favorites for the show in a record-breaking 392 million votes.

The success of the KCAs comes at a time when Nickelodeon continues to wrestle back control of the young demos from its main competitor, the Disney Channel. Among total day in the 2-11 demo, its been a maddening, back-and-forth fight with the Mouse House: In the past 11 weeks, Disney has No. 1 for 6 of the weeks while Nick has been No. 1 for five.

After multiple airings this weekend, the KCAs ended up luring more than 12 million viewers.
