The Cold War has captivated our imaginations and taken over our television sets. But instead of stylish spies in disguise, HBO Films is taking the biopic route.

HBO Films confirmed Thursday they are developing a movie about former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev with the help of Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio. Neither actor will be donning that distinctive birthmark, though. They’re just helping to make sure the project comes to life through their respective production companies — DiCaprio’s Appian Way, and Hanks’ Playtone. This news was first reported by Deadline.

The film will chronicle Gorbachev’s time as president through the end of the Cold War and the dissolution of the Soviet Union from a script by X-Files and Breaking Bad writer and producer John Shiban. Gorbachev, now 82, has worked with DiCaprio before on The 11th Hour, and will serve as a consultant on the project. There’s no word yet on timeline or casting.

Director Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) is also working on his own Gorbachev project, Reykjavik, about the 1986 peace summit between the Soviet leader and Ronald Reagan. The big screen take on the historic meeting stars Christoph Waltz as Gorbachev, and Michael Douglas as Reagan, and is currently in production.
