Nick Cannon: 'American Idol' producers 'feed' Mariah Carey's feud with Nicki Minaj

While making the media rounds today, Nick Cannon criticized Fox and American Idol producers for perpetuating a feud between his wife Mariah Carey and singer Nicki Minaj.

“It’s kind of unfortunate,” he told the ladies at The Talk. “When you see someone like my wife, who tries to remain classy and tries to take the high road, it feels like everybody else around it — including the network and the producers — feed into this whole sound bite drama. It feels like it lacks substance.”

Calling the situation “unfortunate,” Cannon went on to say that he believes the viewers have grown tired of the well-catalogued barrage of bickering. “I think America in general is tired of seeing the mean judges and people be mean to people. They’re over it,” he said, adding, “In the book of Mariah Carey, American Idol will be a footnote.”

Earlier on KTLA, Cannon speculated on his wife’s Idol future. “It’s a time when she has so many amazing things going on in her life, if there’s something unstable — I think if they get it stable she might re-look [sic] at it, but no one wants to be a part of something unstable,” he said.

Just last week, THR reported that Idol producers, noting the series’ sharp decline in ratings this season, considered replacing Carey with Jennifer Lopez mid-season.

While Cannon did not directly address the report, he went on to say that Carey had a hunch early on that the panel would not gel. “My wife foreseen all of this. She tried to tell the network, ‘I dont think this is going to work.'”
