ABC’s S.H.I.E.L.D. … or Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. … or Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., or whatever ABC officially decides to call Joss Whedon’s TV-sized venture into The Avengers universe, is soon expected to get a series pickup.
Despite some online reports today, the order has not happened yet — ABC has not called Marvel with a series order. But in a week fraught with uncertainties and switchbacks and rumors as networks make last-minute decisions before their upfronts presentations to advertisers next week … S.H.I.E.L.D. is considered the safest bet on the board.
So ABC is mum.
But lookie here. The network just posted this intriguing video on its official YouTube channel. So much for no Hulk!
Annnnnnd now the video is pulled! That lasted less than an hour. Basically: The video was grainy and silent surveillance footage showing The Hulk smashing burning cars on a street and was titled “Hulk Fire.” If indeed the video is part of the S.H.I.E.L.D. campaign and represents a story thread in the series, well, that’s rather amusing because The Hulk is the one character Whedon said would not be in the show! “For me the most important thing is that people fall in love with [the show] on its own merits, rather than constantly asking, “Is there gonna be an Avenger?” Whedon said. “Well, there’s not gonna be a Hulk because that guy’s too expensive.”
