With the exception of the exclusive joint Boston Rob and Russell Hantz interview I did before the start of Survivor: Redemption Island, every Survivor pre-game interview I have ever done has always been a 1-on-1 situation. But with returning players going up with/against their loved ones on Survivor: Blood vs. Water, I had the unique opportunity to talk to the contestants in pairs. Sometimes — like with Rupert and wife Laura — the interactions between the two were super lovey-dovey. Other times — like with Gervase and niece Marissa — they talked a bit of smack at each other’s expense. And then there was this exchange between Tyson and his confused girlfriend Rachel.
Click on the video player below to see Rachel — who has clearly not been listening to a single word her loved one has been saying — pretty much completely (if unknowingly) contradict Tyson’s entire plan should they both make it close to the end of the game. In her defense, this comes after Tyson had gone off on a somewhat random and lengthy political tangent about the Republican party, so she can’t exactly be faulted for letting her mind wander. Either way, it’s pretty hilarious and makes me hope that we are privy to many post-merge strategizing sessions between the pair.
