Tuesday’s NCIS: Los Angeles episode has been nearly 75 episodes in the making.
“Let me just say, this is the best work Chris O’Donnell has ever done on the series,” executive producer Shane Brennan says of the episode, which marks the series’ 100th. “I knew I wanted to do this episode since episode 25, and I had to wait patiently to do it. … Everything you’ve learned about Callen has been set up to pay off this episode.”
In the episode, airing Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET, it has been teased that Callen will come face-to-face with a man who claims to be his father. In fact, it happens in the first minute of the show. And the episode then travels 8 hours back in time to explain how they got there, culminating in a big finish. “The last three minutes of the episode, Chris is just astonishing,” says Brennan. “It’s Chris, by himself, and he says these two words … it’s an amazing sequence.”
But with 100 episodes down, how many more does Brennan think NCIS: LA has left? “This show will easily reach its 200th milestone if we continue with this enthusiasm and freshness,” he says.
