'The Voice' doing Rose Parade float: First TV show since ... ?

The Voice has been ruling the ratings this fall. So why not throw the show a parade?

NBC’s singing competition hit is joining the annual Tournament of Roses Parade. The network has been told this is the first time in the memory of current parade organizers that a broadcast television show has been asked to participate (in other words: It might be the very first time, but nobody is 100 percent sure). The nationally televised event will be 125 years old, after all.

The parade is held in Pasadena in conjunction with the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day. Each year features about 40 floral-decorated floats (I’m thinking a lot of red and white roses for The Voice, yes?).

The news comes as The Voice celebrates season 3 winner Cassadee Pope getting some serious career traction, landing the No. 1 album on the iTunes country chart last week. The Voice was knocked last year by X Factor guru Simon Cowell, who said the NBC show may be doing well in the ratings, but hasn’t produced a star. Well, now it has (not to rain on Cowell’s parade … oh, that’s right, he’s not in one).
