MSNBC is pulling Alec Baldwin’s late-night talk show Up Late on the heels of his recent public outbursts.

The cable news network will not air the show tonight or next week. MSNBC released this statement from the actor:

I would like to address the comments I made this past week.

I did not intend to hurt or offend anyone with my choice of words, but clearly I have – and for that I am deeply sorry. Words are important. I understand that, and will choose mine with great care going forward. What I said and did this week, as I was trying to protect my family, was offensive and unacceptable. Behavior like this undermines hard-fought rights that I vigorously support. I understand “Up Late” will be taken off the schedule for tonight and next week.

I want to apologize to my loyal fans and to my colleagues at msnbc – both for my actions and for distracting from their good work. Again, please accept my apology.

GLAAD’s Rich Ferraro responded to the decision saying, “Alec Baldwin still needs to take real action. MSNBC has sent a message that anti-gay slurs carry consequences, and that’s an important standard to uphold at a time when LGBT people continue to face disproportionate levels of bullying and violence just because of who they are.”

Baldwin lashed out at photographer Thursday in Manhattan, allegedly calling him a “c–ksucking f-g,” which would mark the second time the actor has publicly used a gay slur while attacking a member of the media. Once the video of the incident went viral on TMZ, the actor then insisted he actually called the photographer a  “c–ksucking fathead.” In addition to being generally doubtful about Baldwin’s claim, GLAAD pointed out that using “c–ksucker” as an epithet isn’t exactly a very gay-friendly thing to say either. The actor then apologized and tweeted that he would retire the c-word from his vocabulary. More on all that here.

On Friday, criticism of Baldwin increased. Media figures like CNN’s Anderson Cooper and writer Andrew Sullivan ripped into Baldwin and and his explanations, calling him a liar and a “homophobic bigot.” While Baldwin went off on a Fox affiliate reporter.
